Ok, when my skin is really irritated, La Mer really helps (I had a sample, I didn't buy it). Since I have read that the base is similar to German made Nivea, plus sea kelp and anti oxidants, I was wondering if anyone had tried making it? I was thinking of using German Nivea as a base, and adding sea kelp and antioxidants.

Has anyone tried this? If so, how did it work?

I haven't not a fan of petrol products in high end skin care, really rubs me the wrong way (they are cheap) Smile

Maybe this can help you try???

The Crème de la Mer website admits: “There is nothing miraculous about its ingredients – sea kelp, calcium, magnesium, potassium, iron, lecithin, Vitamins C, E and B12, plus oils of citrus, eucalyptus, wheat germ, alfalfa, and sunflower.”

Thank you Dark Moon!

That is TOTALLY why I want to just make it using the Nivea base-because I cannot rationalize paying that much for it, when it is cheap to make.

I agree and it's easy to use just good botanical oils and skip the mineral oil! Smile

Easy for some people, but not so easy for me. I tried to make a creme once....it was a total disaster! I have to start with the base and add from there.

I understand totally, it's more complicated to make emulsions (creams) than serums, on the link I posted to the other thread Skinactives have a recipe I assume using their base cream. If you are in need of the SKB bulkactives is cheaper!
I wasn't trying to say it's easy in that snotty way, just you can skip the mineral oil! Sorry if that came across wrong! Smile

I didn't take it wrong at all. Let's just say skincare formulations are not my speciality. I copy the easy stuff on here, and just buy the rest! I have actually been using Kassy's vitamin c serum recipe and love it.

I was looking at bulkactives. I am curious though, where do most people buy the stirrers and stuff like that? It doesn't seem like the companies who sell the stuff to make skincare products sell the tools to do it.

I have purchased tools from both lotioncrafters and makingcosmetics.com in the past I actually never checked on bulkactives or skinactives only because I already have all my goodies, they may be listed under equipment?

I am glad I didn't offend as that surely wasn't my intent! I find it's best to start slowly with the easier DIY at first and work up to more complicated recipes if so inclined!

I know Kassy and I have posted a number of our first attempts went swiftly down the drain! LOL Thank god it's not much money! Smile

Pure sea kelp boiferment/ferment would also help with irritaed skin; you really dont have to mix it with a cream unless you want emoliency.

Thanks Dark Moon, I checked both those sites and will be using them to buy some equipment. (I tried to reply yesterday but since I am new, I hit my 5 post a day max-note to self, post 5 times a day to hit my 50 fast)

Daler-that is a great suggestion, but I do like the emollient part of the equation. But next time I have a rash on my face I will remember that I can use the SKB plain and it will help.

Why couldn't you add Botanicals to sea kelp bioferment. Then mix in a bit of nivea cream. I would mix them together before applying.

ww.skinactives.com have a good base cream to which you can add your own actives. They did used to have a "Creme de la Mer" copy recipe but it's no longer listed - I remember it had Sea Kelp Bioferment in it but don't know what else. Perhaps you could email them and ask.

I usually use Cetaphil as a base, since it works well with my skin. This past week I picked up a tub of a similar cream called CeraVe at Walmart which I also like so far.
