I ran out of face mask last week and so decided on a DIY. I used organic free range egg whites (they come in a carton) and added one tsp of bentonite clay and a tsp of pea protein powder (it's green and loaded with antioxidants). It didn't go too rigid but I was in the bath when I applied it. Afterwards, my pores looked smaller and my skin very fresh. I think I'll stick with this one as it's not at all expensive. |

I have a book by the founder of Aubrey Organics and she has a similar mask which also contains a blue/green algae blend that's for consumption. It also feeds the skin! ![Smile](images/smiles/smile.gif) |

Its occurred to me after reading another thread, that since my pores have become so clean, they really do look huge, and I haven't done much to address this. I really despise the analogy, but "orange peel" is about right, at least on either side of my nose & forehead. I use primer to cover.
Could you explain how this works? I know the eggwhites tighten, but how does bentonite both nourish & draw out impurities? It seems like a waste to add nourishing ingredients when clay is just going to suck it all up?
And can skb be used as a replacement for this bluegreen algae and is it ever used with clay masks?
Thanks! |

Hi Lori, All I can tell you is how my skin appeared after using this mask. I doubt whether it is necessary at all to add bentonite but I had some sitting in my fridge, felt experimental, and so used it.
I must be thick on the SKB...what is that? |

I don't purchase a ton of products and only one from Garden Botanica it's an activated charcoal mask it's also got clay. I tend to use purifying and nourishing masks separately. I never thought about the clay sucking out the goodies before, just a habit.
The GB mask is also anti-aging with skin goodies in it, so I wonder if the clay/charcoal only pull out toxins or if the goodies are being wasted? |

Of course that's what SKB is. Sad, aren't I? Perhaps the egg white paralyses the bentonite I actually put it in there for a little texture as egg whites can be on the thin side. It isn't exactly a scientifically proven formula, but ti worked nicely for me. |

I don't think any mask can make your pores smaller. I found it was a few things that help. Clarisonic help do a deep clean and purge all that guck stuck in there. Vitamin C help maintain firmness and good skin tone. Juice Beauty peel did the same. |

Absolutely true. The pores can look smaller for a while due to overall temporary skin tightening but nothing can permanently reduce pore size. Exfoliation helps by literally wearing down the edges of the pore and this is where the Clarisonic comes in. A good exfoliant will do the same - but only so long as you keep exfoliating.
