The following pics are of a friend of mine. She is in her 40s and her skincare regimen is “minimal” for lack of a better word. Her under eye area is very fragile, has dark circles, and she has some little round balls under them (?). The rest of her face is okay in the sense that she does not have any pimples or anything – just age related wrinkles and fine lines with some skin sagging. Her skin is normal – not too oily and not too dry. She asked me for help in regards to her skin and I have no clue how to direct her. She mainly wants to focus on her under eye area but would like overall general skincare “regimen”. She currently only uses a facewash and a moisturizer. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

I think she need Botox, fillers and Vivier vitamin C serum. She also need to exfoliate and get regular maintenance on her eye brows. |

Her under eye area looks red, almost irritated in a few of the photos. I don't know if that is just lighting or if they really are irritated? Has she seen a derm for the little round balls?
As far as skin care recommendations, Retin A and sunscreen. ![Very Happy](images/smiles/biggrin.gif) |

I also recommend regular exfoliation. |

Great advice given already- basically, she would be best to incorporate a few of these approaches:
- Retin A,
- Vitamin C
- Chemical Exfoliation (perhaps a TCA or a series of glycolic peels)
- Maybe Copper Peptides
- A good antioxidant serum
- Maybe Tanaka massage (not sure if it is the angle of the picture but her face seems a little puffy)
- Oils that suit normal but aging skin type
Wishing your friend the best, |

I'd suggest she do obaji nuderm to kick start her skin and get a lot of that damage off quick..she'd see results after 12 weeks. It also is a program with instructions that will be easier for someone who hasn't been taking care of their skin.
I'd think about elastiderm eye cream too by obaji. you can buy it on amazon for $36...
I'd also have her buy a clarsonic brush to exfoliate...and add copper peptides after her skin has been rejuvinated by obaji.
I only say this..because a few years ago..I did the obaji nuderm...and it trasnformed my skin in three months... but it did peel and it was a process...I've been using retin a ever since and now use copper peptides. |

I know this problem..My mom used to have this too and she got the advice to use a serum twice a day and every night before going to bed, putting some ice on her eyes.. They say it has something to do with the vessels that are uhm unrelaxed which can cause discoloration and dehydrated skin.. I don't know which serum my mom has.. Probably just a regular eye-serum.. But using the products she already has, she might can give the ice a try.. |

Retin A, chemical peels (if her skin is not sensitive) and a good barrier repair product ( like DNA repair serum or similar), good eye cream, CPs and sunscreen. |

I swear by Obagi's eye cream!! It will help tremendously! Tomorrow I hit the 14th mark on the Nu Derm system. I am 43 yr.old Obagian believer!! |

She should use a sunscreen during the day to prevent more damage.
no one mentioned that! |

Thanks for all the replies!!
@rileygirl: I think the lighting makes it seem her under eye area is inflamed. She has never been to the derm and she does not plan to go anytime soon.
The obagi nuderm seems like a good idea because it is simple to follow but I am afraid her skin is way too thin and the harsh effects of this 12 week intense system make actually do more harm than good. Is my thinking flawed or is this about right? Also, where do I get this from - it appears you need a prescription to get it in the USA?
Now as far as getting her on a regular daily routine, what do you guys recommend for actual products i.e. a good eye cream for her case, face wash, etc. etc.? |

If she wanted to go on Nu Derm, which is a great system, she would really need to see a derm or at least an esty. They can tailor the plan to her and it does not have to be "harsh", as she can take a slower route. Retin A is the best thing she can be on. It does not thin the skin. It exfoliates the outer layer while thickening the inner layer, and it is the only proven ingredient, at the moment, to diminish wrinkles. She needs to be on a good sunscreen if she uses Retin A.
If you are just looking for general products just to start her on something, perhaps she could look into the Olay line that is available at drugstores. They have the Pro-X or the Regenerist systems, which a lot of people seem to like. Again, regardless of what she uses, she needs to be on a sunscreen or she is wasting her time and money! |
