For several years I've been having big issues with ingrown hairs and red marks after shaving or using a chemical depilatory.
Usually a fair while passes between me hacking down the hair (I'm a guy), I used to have similar issues when manscapeing but that problem seems to have gone away after keeping up the habit. My legs however give me problems no end. Though it is usually focused on the back of my thighs and the crotch, I assume this is due to clothing and sitting.
I currently only use a loofah every day to exfoliate and am in real need of some help.
I've read a lot about using a scrub with AHA sometime before shaving and then using some moisturiser afterwards. My problem is what to use, I'm not able to afford the super expensive moisturiser solutions suggested so am looking for something cheaper (to see if scrubs and moisturiser works in the first place), or perhaps something home made that I can use before to exfoliate and after to moisturise.
Does anyone have any suggestions that I can try to see if it helps at all? |

I find BHA to be very helpful in preventing ingrown hairs. My favorite is Paula's Choice 2% but Neutrogena makes some well formulated BHA products also. Also sometimes I use Stridex pads, I find its a bit easier to use the pads on the body when you need to cover a larger area. |

Yeah I've done it a few times before, though i still get some ingrown hairs. Though less. I only shaved this current time as I had forgone doing it in so long (ex boyfriend hated me being shaved), so that waxing would have been a lot of trouble.
I used to use witch hazel to try and calm it but it never worked way back when, so I'll try more moisturiser based solutions and heavy ex-foliation to see if it helps, I'll see if I can find some of those products, thanks |

Have you tried other forms of hair removal. As simply changing your method of hair removal could wipe out the need for any follow up products.
Have you ever tried a silky mit? It gets rid of the hair and gently exfoliates the upper surface of the epidermis which decreases the chance of ingrowns as well as red marks. |

I tried them once before, but with longer hair which never worked well, though I'm now keeping it smooth (as possible). So I'll be trying a few different methods in the coming months to try to find something that works (while getting my legs used to it).
I just need something to help asap as spotty red thighs aren't the best thing to have on the dating scene. |

have you tried trimming hair prior to use of the silky mit? Unfortunately they aren't designed for use on men so they wont help with the longer hair but if you were to trim the hair prior then it should work. |

Yeah I realised that once I tried, unfortunately my trimmer has broken. hough I'm now smooth, but itchy so I can start now.
Like I said though I'll be staying smooth from now so 'l give it ago in a few days if I can lay my hands on some. |
