Which essential oils are non-irritant for sensitive skin? I want to use one or two in my homemade cream. My skin is sensitive and, usually, I do not use any perfumes because of it. But I want to use some essential oil to overcome smell of ingredients(like vegetable oils). I have allergy to chamomile. |

I dont think that there is anything such as " coconut essential oil " , it's a carrier oil as far as I know... |

yes , it's listed in the ingredients.... I think it would be a very nice EO if it's for real... but then in the ingredients they have listed " Natural Moisturizing Factor " there is no such thing as that ( may be it's Na PCA ).... they have to provide the INCI name... n this makes me think that this co. may be not be very forthcoming n honest... |

here you go, in the descrition it says : " Coconut milk nourishes, moisturizes and softens while virgin coconut oil supplies exceptional antioxidant protection. " there is no mention of EO here.... |

You make an interesting point. I'll have to look into this further. |

Thanks for pointing this out, btw.
There's so much misinformation out there, and one really has to work hard to sort fact from fiction. |

I dont even have sensitive skin but I cannot use any essential oils especially on my face. I've even tried an organic rose otto in 3% solution and my skin hates it. I would suggest that if your skin is sensitive give the essential oils a miss. They are actually very potent and are not great for fragrancing products since they are active ingredients. No essential oils are non-irritant, they are all volatile compounds with equal chance of causing a reaction on your skin.
I've yet to have any objectionable odours coming from a cold pressed vegetable oil, most of them are odourless so I'm curious as to what exactly you are trying to cover up. |

NotMeNotYou,
can you use them when added to a cream/product? |

No. That is why I make all my own skin care, nearly everything commercially produced is loaded with EO and Aloe Vera, both of which cause a reaction on my skin. |

I have very sensitive skin too with suspected irritant contact dermatitis. Everything perfumey, acidic, ect i cannot use. However,i found grape seed oil was amazing for my skin for the really high levels of vitamin E that was inside. It only contains 2 ingredients, the grapeseed and the vitamin E. I bought it from my local Holland And Barrat. It doesn't smell of anything, like water doesn't smell of anything, neither does this haha ![Laughing](images/smiles/lol.gif) |

I've done some research into this, and I recall chamomile (sorry!) and vanilla being mentioned as minimally irritating. (It'll take me a while to sort through that bookmark, so it might take a while for the proofs, lol.) Enough vanilla can supposedly repel mosquitoes, but I don't know whether or not it would attract other types of insects.
They are expensive, but coffee and cocoa absolutes are supposed to be antioxidant rich for the skin. I don't know if this is because the absolutes themselves actually possess this ability, or if the various extracts from these sources are known sources of antioxidants. Makes you stop and think, eh? |
