There is no way to reverse grey hair. Some people believe that taking Folic Acid may help the hair retain more pigment, but I have never seen proof that this works. Haircolor is the only way.

If there indeed is a way, I'd sure like to know about it. I've been coloring my hair since I was in my 20's and now, at the ripe age of 55, its probably 75%+ grey. If I let it go grey, I fear I would really look my age but its such a drag because my grey/white roots pop up so quickly. One thing you can suggest to your mum is to "lowlight," i.e. instead of highlighting with a lighter color, low light with her natural color. Good luck and if you find that miracle product/process, let us know! I'd even love to find a product that slows down the growth of hair so I wouldn't have to touch up my roots so often. I bet there's something out there that has that effect but its probably totally toxic and slows down all cell renewal...no good, oh well! |

Hi Nanopost,
That's exactly my mom's problem, she is 56, and she has to color her hair frequently since the roots pop up too fast, and she is really tired of it. The frequent coloring is also making her hair frizzy and dry. So if I find a solution, she will be sooooo happy.....
.....and I might need to find that out for myself in the future
I am NOT gonna give up.....

Diderot,
This is a tough one especially if she's gone gray already. The only thing that I've ever heard of reversing gray was a daily intake of wheatgrass juice.
If she's not completely gray certain supplement may help. Copper is said to help so when I began seeing more gray hairs, I began taking a trace mineral supplement with copper balanced out with other minerals. It seems to have helped but in my case it took 5 months to see the difference. |

queenpedauque, this is really valuable info, thx a million!
I browsed around on the internet, found quite a few site selling pills like that, but they are not too convincing.
Can you find Copper supplement just by itself ??

The copper,... you can find by itself but the advantage of buying a combination of the minerals will allow you to get the right proportions. I think even more so than vitamins, minerals need to be available in certain ratios.
As to the wheatgrass, I have seen it stop gray hair in its tracks and this might be because of its amazing amount of vitamins and minerals in so small a portion.
Copper is also available in raisins so I guess you could suggest your mother eat alot of raisins.
But once agin, I have to stress that wheatgrass is really the strongest remedy I know of. I think you're in the Boston area. I visit there alot and often go to Wild Harvest for shots of wheatgrass. If you could convince your mother to go for a shot a day..maybe thrown in to a more palatable juice...I think you would have to convince her to do it for 3 months before she'd see a difference..maybe longer. It certainly can't hurt. Wheatgrass has some pretty amazing properties. hth |

wheatgrass is nasty. The guy at the gym gave me one a while back, and I swear 3 hours later I burped and retasted it all over again. Definitely mix it with some OJ or something |

It's gross going down, and even grosser coming back up. I wonder if they can make it into a gel capsule? |

I'm 35 and have a significant amount of grey hair for my age (more than my friends).
Two weeks ago I started taking copper. From what I have read you have to be careful b/c if you take too much you can actually cause a lot of toxicity problems. Also I've read that copper displaces zinc so taking them together or in a muti mineral supplement is probably a good idea.
I've also started using the Folligen copper spray by skinbiology topically on my hair. I think it is suppose to help with hair loss but people have reported that it sometimes turns their hair back to the original colour.
I've just started these things so I can't yet report on whether they work or not. |

Lily, be sure and let us know.
And diderot, if your mom's hair is dry and frizzy, I would try Neutrogena Triple Moisture conditioner. Also I just today received my bottle of Goldwell Shampoo for color-treated hair. It was recommended by a stylist, I'll let you know how it is. |

I believe wheatgrass juice is best consumed very very fresh. Apparantly as time goes on, all of the good minerals and stuff start to oxidize and become less effective. I agree, it is totally disgusting. I took a shot of it once and I thought I was going to pass out right in the street. Personally I stick to juiced greens, like kale, cucumber, collards, etc. These aren't tasty either, admittedly, but it isn't overly-potent like wheatgrass. |

Thanks soo much for the response, you girls are the best !!
Can anyone recommend a brand for the copper combo ??
Nanapost, I recommended soo many products for her dry hair, she probably won't listen to me anymore, lol, although, she is using the Infusium23 leave-in now, I begged her to. I will keep the neutrogena on my list, like I said, I won't give up on HEALING her hair

Hey girls,
I hate to burst your bubble, but there is no supplement that will reverse gray hair. Once the follicle stops producing melanin, that;s it - it's dead. And Lily is right in regard to the copper. Be careful taking heavy metals - they can build up in your body & become toxic. They can also stop your body from absorbing other needed vitamins & minerals. Do some research first!
Good luck!

Unfortunately, I'm one of those ladies who started having grey hair at a very early age.
What about any hair tonic is there such product out there? Taking Copper/Mineral Vitamins internally sounds kinda scary and toxic |

Dabawenya,
The supplement is trace minerals so these are very miniscule amounts. Before our soils were so depleted, these minerals would be available in trace forms in many of our foods. The idea of taking these trace minerals is to get those that would naturally be occurring in our food.
You gals jogged my memory and there is a Chinese herb called Ho Shou Wu..(also goes by the name of Fo Ti and the Latin name Polygonum Multiflorum or something like that.)
This herb is known for its ability to reverse gray hair but I have also heard that its important to get a good quality root. Just thought I'd throw that in too for anyone that wants to research. |
