I've been reading lots of "glowing skin" raves about vC here and I feel left out. Last time I dropped into a skincare store the sales said those products were for much more mature skin and sold me the YonKa cream instead. Is there something similar anyone can recommend?
Age: 22
Skin condition: Nice cheeks , flaky nose, poofy-fine-lined panda eyes (more genetics than not), occasional pimples on forehead but dullsville. It is rather sensitive to strong chemicals/fragrance so I try to KIS.
Current products: cleansing - Dermalogica Special Cleansing Gel; day - Dr. Hauschka Rose Day Cream; night - YonKa Phyto 58; eye - Aveda Tourmaline (impulse buy ), vE oil.
Other notes: I used to use Cellex-C SunCare SPF30 but I found it too greasy--hasn't been replaced. The YonKa evens up my skin nicely but does nothing for "glow". VitK eye creams sting terribly so I rely on concealer for now.
Thank you for any replies! I'm just starting out in skincare and this forum has been great.
P.S. Should I add any masks/treatments to my routine? |

I notice you don't have any exfoliants in your regime. The dull skin could be caused from old skin on the surface. Adding an exfoliant will get rid of the dead cells and improve circulation bringing you a glow.
You should use one:
1x a week for dry/sensitive skin
2x a week for normal
3x a week for oily
Some I've tried are:
-PTR buffing beads (works good & not harsh)
-Decleor phytopeel (I like this one, you spread it over your skin and let dry, then use hands to rub the dry stuff off. Some people have complained about a film it leaves, but I wash with cleanser after and have never noticed a film.) |

I agree with Lianne - looks like you're not exfoliating so there's no removal of dead (dull) skin cells. I would suggest that you also get a vit C serum but not a strong one - just a 10%.
Peter Thomas Roth Botanical Buffing Beads is a very good scrub which is also very gentle and feels like your face is getting a massage. That would be a good choice as Lianne mentioned. If you have dry skin (I gather you do since you use Dr H Rose Day Cream) then a vitamin C serum by Vivier or CSRx might be the best one for you as they are less drying. |

Thanks Lianne & Mabsy! The Dr.H cream is normally too rich for me, but I've been spending much of this winter outdoors.
I tried Dermanew but that stung too much while using and made my skin feel very tender and weak so I abandoned it. I will try the PTR Buffing Beads.
Mabsy - Pardon me; what is CSRx? |

Thanks!
I was reading up on reviews of the PTR Beads and found the blue dye off-putting. There are so many good reviews of Dermologica's Microfoliant, is it comparable to the PTR? |

I know that Mabsy loves the dermalogica microfiliant...
Myself...I can't use their products, they all tend to give me rashes. |

Hm.. Perhaps I should go ahead with my current order and ask for samples of the two. |

I like them both but I know that some people have reported dryness with the Microfoliant. I think both are a good gentle exfoliator but for some reason the Microfoliant seems to speed up fading of little post-acne type redness that I get sometimes. Samples are available of both products and if you ask for them and EDS has them in stock then I'm sure they'll be happy to send them to you. |
