Just read through the "Favorite Perfumes" thread, and noticed that two members mentioned my all-time fave, Guess (the one discontinued in 1991.)
I have a few original, unopened bottles, and unless they've turned, would love to find a place that could recreate the fragrance, and maybe a few other discontinued favorites!
Anyone know of a company or a person who can recreate fragrances?
What are some of your favorite perfumes you'd love to recreate if you could? |

I would try asking Dawn Spencer Hurwitz, search on the name and her website should come up. |

ooooh..If i could recreate any perfume it would be SKIN perfume..it used to be made by Bonne Belle ...but I think that is now owned by Prince Matchabelli....I'm quite certain that you can't get it in Canada....I guess I could order it from the US...Anyways - I'd recreate that stuff if I could and swim in it!

I think recreating a discontinued fragrance might be seriously expensive.
Recreating a lip color...it was around 300 bucks (reordering after the initial "recreation" was 80 bucks.) I thought about having a discontinued lip color recreated, until I saw the price.
The original lipstick cost me 15! I didn't love the color enough to pay that kind of money... |

Recreating lipstick is THAT expensive? I know we have a place over here called Beauty Bar that does it and the price was around maybe 30CAD or something? Even if I remember incorrectly 50 would be the MAXIMUM it would've cost - but you have to make 2 at a time. |

I just checked on recreating a lipstick shade. It was about 50 bucks for 2 tubes (I thing 2) through that custom beauty company. |

Thanks for checking babymax - so that comes to 25CAD + tax for a tube which is pretty average for lipstick, and relatively cheap if you're recreating a colour from a more expensive brand. |

awesome!...maybe I should go through that company rather than the "a la carte" one I was planning on a few years ago! Problem is I don't have that old lipstick anymore...
I'd be interested in recreating a fragrance...Tiffany Trueste was fabulous.

I know The Vermont Country Store catalog and online carried recreations of classic perfumes using the exact same formulas. I think the company was called Long Lost Perfumes but I'm not exactly sure. |

Does anyone know where I can have a fragrance recreated? Specifically I am looking to have one of the MAC (the cosmetic company) fragrances that they discontinued 2 years ago recreated. Thank you.
The last post in here was in 2011, so wonder if anything new has popped up.
Also heard that scentmatchers was a big scam - has anyone tried it & didn't return their purchase? |

I ordered from Scentmatchers yesterday. To be honest, I'm not expecting much. The reviews of this company range from loving it to ok to people reporting them as scammers to every single consumer watch group that they can. One person said that it didn't smell anything like the fragrance they had and thought that Scentmatchers had a big drum of water and baby oil that they dip the bottle in and laugh all the way to the bank. The angry responses are truly angry people. One website had a list of 250 posts about how bad this company is. Having said that, the particular website is a site for perfume snobs. I don't know what they're talking about half the time!!! IN any event, I've spent probably $250.00 in new perfumes trying to replace the MV3, so what's another $60? |

You can find a lot of discontinued fragrances online. Some are very cheap. If you live in a major city, there are generally fragrance shops in the garment district that sell all kinds. The older ones that people don't buy any more can often be had for $20. That's how I stocked up.
You can also buy from basenotes.com I think. People will sell samples and decants. I'd recommend that first because I've found that wearing a fragrance fave from decades ago did not smell the same on me. It has to interact with your skin and hormones you know. You may find you don't even like it any more. |
