Does anyone know of a sure cure for those horrid, hard, painful chin zits? I think they're a post-menopausal thing, although I've battled moderate acne all my adult life. Now, when things are improving a bit, and I'm on the threshold of getting wrinkles, I've got a lovely crop of those smallish, deep painful things all over my chin.
PLEASE HELP!!!!!
Thanks,

What is your skin like overall? Oily? Combo? Dry? If they are just on your chin, could it be from leaning your chin on your hand a lot? Those pesky bacteria love to spread & find homes!
Let me know your overall skintype and what products you are using & I'll try to give you some ideas.

I'm generally normal/combo, but lately I've been very dry (it's winter in Wisconsin, after all!). I try to be careful about leaning on my hand, etc., and try to remember to disinfect my telephones frequently -- I'm a firm believer that phones cause breakouts (and colds, etc.).
But what can I do once the "d*mned spots" erupt? |

jhbuddy,
What types of products do you use?
A BHA or glycolic product could help with the exfoliation of dead skin cells and help keep your pores from getting clogged up. |

yes, exfoliating is one of the best things you can do for breakouts. I would avoid any typical acne drying treatments since you are experiencing dry skin now. (no benzoyl peroxide). You could try a salycilic acid treatment gel such as Neutragena for spot treatments. Just make sure you use a good oil-free moisturizer. If you want to go the natural route, use Colloidal Silver on a cotton pad 3 times a day as a toner. It is a natural antibiotic and helps to repair damaged skin, also look for Neem in your health food store - either that or Tea Tree extract. Both are very powerful, yet gentle anti-microbial treatments. Be sure to change your pillowcase every night, and maybe try to cut some of the raw milk products out of your diet (yogurt is OK). This will help to decongest your skin.
Good luck & keep us updated!

Also Vitamin MSM was suggested to me for my breakouts. I just bought a bottle today to give it a shot..I'll let you know how it goes! |

Yes! I forgot about MSM! Since I have started taking it, it has kept my breakouts at bay. I did run out of it about a month ago & didn't get out to the health food store for like a week & I did break out w/a couple of pimples on my cheek. I believe it really does work! |

I have read where chin and jaw blemishes, especially the hard, painful ones that you describe, are related to hormonal fluctuations. In my experience, that is exactly what happens to me during PMS time. The best thing that helped me was prescription Clindamycin gel (topical antibiotic). This takes care of them for me before they surface. BP never did much for me; it always seemed to make the pimple worse and dry out the area. If you try over the counter products and find that they aren't working, perhaps the Clindamycin gel could help.

I would incorporate an AHA/BHA product. That helps me when I have break outs and it also prevents those bumps under the skin. I'm really liking Physician's Choice Cleanser for problem/oily skin (even though mine is not oily but this is not drying). I really like Murads AHA/BHA exfoliating cleanser (which is a scrub rather than a cleanser). |
