I am not a novice to the whole skin care regiment. Several years ago I was using Green Cream, CP's and all other manner of ingredients. But then for a good while I began taking care of my invalid mother until she recently passed away and I neglected myself terribly...doing minimal.
I am fortunate to have been born with good genes but I had begun to look tired and haggard..not liking what I saw. So..you know..
I decided to get back into caring for myself again but to keep it as simple as I could and concentrate on the things I knew to really work. I don't want to wear myself down from a frenzied regime I will tire of.
I've started doing Retin a at night and not having any negative reactions...so far..so good.
I also want to incorporate SuperCP, AHA...and maybe a good Vit c serum..(or a good multi serum with a high percentage).
What I need to know is..Can I use Retin A with CP at night? I know that I need to use Retin A at night...but I also hate using CP during the day. It seems to emphasize the lines around my mouth right after use. Not so good under make up and my daytime face...
The only other alternative would be to use them on alternate nights. So which choice is best? Together or alternate?
Also..can I use AHA with Vit C serums during the day...or would it be recommended to use these 2 together (after 30 min or an hour wait time, of course)?
The advice on the net can get pretty confusing...but many of you guys here seem to know your stuff.
Any thoughts would be appreciated. |

Personally I would alternate because for me I cant use RetinA every night anyway as it causes too much dryness and peeling.
CP's should be given a break anyway otherwise they can have the opposite effect.
But I'm sure other contributers can give you more info than me...
I'm sorry to hear about your mother - I lost mine only a year ago so I can relate - and we do neglect ourselves when looking after others and grieving - now is some time to focus back on yourself. Just be kind and gentle to yourself...
good luck and blessings... |

Try to wait at least an hour after putting on your Retin-A before you apply anything else. Retin-A needs to work alone because it is a fragile ingredient that can be inactivated by other ingredients you put on your face. However, you might want to search up skincare products that you shouldn't use on your face at the same time you have Retin-A on. I believe there is some ingredient that results in a bad interaction but I forgot what, or if there even is any. |

Yes, exactly like I'm pretty sure you cant use RetinA with glycolic acid as it deactivates it - that is, that the glycolic acid deactivates the RetinA.
For me I need to wait about 30 minutes after cleansing my face before applying RetinA - then I wait maybe 30 minutes to an hour before applying moisturizer

Thanks to all for the responses.
First of all I want everyone to know that I discovered that my Mom had been using Retin-A and all sorts of anti aging treatments previously. During the last year and a half before she died she lost all interest in such things. I could say she easily aged a visibly 10-20 years in appearance in that time. So, never lose heart that what you're doing isn't working. You just don't always see it.
As for myself...I started easy on the Retin A..every 3rd night and then advanced to every other night. When I got no negative reaction I went to every night. So far I have had no problem but a slight dryness and a "rosy glow". I still sort of have oily skin. The CPs I am tentative with and only do 2 or 3 nights a week after waiting at least an hour.
I am doing AHA's during the day. I know it makes me more sensitive to sunlight but I'm not wanting to fore-go the Retin-a at night yet for the AHA...but I follow that up with a good multi cream (peptides etc) and wait a while for the sunscreen.
I stay watchful for any negative reactions. But I am surprised that I look so much better already. I guess maybe that's just due to paying more attention to myself..I had expected to see little reaction for months.
Sunscreens are a necessary evil to me. I hate the way they look. Anyone know of a decent one? |
