How do you truly know if the cosmetics/skincare you purchase is authentic? I'm interested in a Dermalogica product that claims to be sealed, but the skeptic in me still envisions someone filling tubes in their basement and passing them off as the real thing! Any advice is appreciated.

I've ordered BE from Ebay once, it arrived fine and yes it was sealed.
The best thing to do if you are not sure is check the seller's profile and check his rating, also check what the buyers feedback.

I know what you mean, Lucy2! I went through a few cycles with creme de la mer -- I nearly ordered it from ebay a million times - but I never did -- too nervous that I wouldn't get what I was paying for! I don't think I could ever order skincare products from ebay - just too wary Doubt -- unless the seller was an actual distributor looking to clean out a pile of overstock or something!

I know from recent experience that you have to be very careful when a deal is too good to be true on Ebay. When it comes to skin care a distributor has to pay a certain price for the product. If it is selling for less either it is fake or out of code. BEWARE

Hi Lucy2! I have had mixed experiences buying cosmetics and skincare products on ebay. Have bought BE and YB MMU and was quite pleased witht the quality of both. However, I purchased a PCA moisturizer for half of what it normally retails for. I've used the line for some time, and know what the packaging should look like. The stuff was really old, and the packaging was not what they use now or even what they've used for the last couple of years.

On the other hand, I know peeps who sell stuff they have bought and no longer like off ebay ...I got a lovely guerlain e/s for pennies and it had been swiped once. I do wonder if the BE sellers buy from eds and then sell on ebay ... the small foundations often start at £14!!! Shock Shock

I actually did buy Creme De La Mer samples off of ebay Embarassed The seller had great feedback, and the product arrived quickly, but I always wondered whether it was authenic. Since I had never used CDLM, I had no basis of comparison, and the samples didn't give me the miracles that CDLM is supposed to give Rolling Eyes , but that just could have been my skin not meshing with the product.

I would not buy skincare from ebay now; personally, I would rather spend extra for the peace of mind that my product is real and fresh. I don't think that this was such an issue a few years ago on ebay, but I think that the selling of fakes and expired products has gotten worse.

I have bought skincare products from eBay and have had no problems. I chose one seller who had sterling feedback and who was obviously a distributer. It isn't the deal of the century, but it was cheaper than anything I saw online or in the stores, so I keep reordering.

I have also personally re-sold products that didn't work for me, so if you don't mind getting an open container some great deals can be found this way.

Just be careful, check the feedback and make sure they've been on eBay for more than 2 weeks and you should be okay. Smile

Actually, I buy on ebay all the time - skincare and otherwise - and have had very few problems. Most people are pretty honest, I think (or maybe I'm just naively optimistic Wink ). I typically won't buy from someone with less than 100 feedback, and if I'm feeling wary, or if it's high dollar, I'll check that they've gotten good feedback on similar items. I also won't bid on things without a picture, and if it's not specified, I'll email to make sure that the picture is of the actual product I'm bidding on and not just a stock photo. Anyway, I've found that by doing a little background checking, I can get some great deals this way!

I've recently started buying some of my skincare off Ebay. I always check their feedback and if anybody has made a negative comment about the quality of the items that they are selling I stay well clear.
I'm still slightly suspicious of some of the items that are being sold on the site. I think that some of the items are being sold by shoplifters. One person was selling lots of skin products (more than they could ever need for personal use) and they stated that if you emailed them with details of which product you wanted they would try and get hold of it for you. I had visions of them wandering around the nearest Dept. store with a large bag shoplifting to order!
Also, I think that some of the stuff on there is sold by sales assistants who work on the beauty counters. They have access to lots of samples and I think that instead of giving them out to prospective customers in the store, they stockpile them to sell on Ebay.
Just my suspicious mind running riot! Very Happy

I've bought BE mineral makeup on Ebay and got a large jar for much less than I would normally spend. As long as the feedback is good, I think I might shop the ebay way again!

I too shop on eBay. I've gotten all my BE products there and have a fav seller who gives the best customer service.

I've bought from other sellers, GWP resales and the one time I went with a seller whose feedback was below what I usually find acceptable (below 98% positive) I regretted it, the products had been opened at least and I'm sure a couple had been used, ewww! I threw them all away. It's really easy to tell if a product has been opened or used. I went with the seller because the items were dirt cheap but regret it now because I have nothing to show for the purchase.

I will always use eBay if I keep having the luck I have had, the above is the only bad experience I've had. In the last two weeks I've bought a Bobbi Brown Shimmerbrick, it came fast and the service was excellent. I didn't pay less then retail though but it was worth it.

One thing I would keep in mind is if it seems like a great deal, it's too good to be true. If I get something less than I can retail, the service and samples they send are nice, I'm happy.

I purchased Bioque Serum XL (one of the products said to improve crows feet etc without the need for botox Shock ). Anyway, got it from Ebay 'cause I always like a bargain, but when it arrived I did think the glass container looked pretty basic with only a stick-on label for the product name, and no company name/ingredients listed (dont all products have to have this?). Have been using it for nearly 2 months now with no difference in my lines. Has anyone bought this product from a reputable supplier who would be able to describe improvements in their skin and also what the container says 'cause I feel like a right numpty if I am using a fake! Embarassed Thanks to anyone who can help.
