I am a party animal, so everytime I step out, I always want to look my most fabulous self; I have acne-prone skin so cover up make-up is a daily essential for me whenever I step out.
I had heard about Jane Iredale products through my dermatologist a couple of years ago, and although a bit pricey, I decided to give them a go. I loved the way they felt on my skin -- the finish was elegant, the makeup didn't cake or streak like other liquid foundation makeup, the coverage was amazing, but most of all, it didn't make me break out! I was thrilled, but could never find the right colour -- "goldon glow" was too dark in the winter, and the other colours seemed too pink, and made my face look puffy. I decided to try out Bare Escentuals makeup because I heard it was pretty much the same type of mineral maekup concept, only packaged differently and more economically priced (which I appreciated being a student on a budget). When I started using it, I thought it was wonderful, if not better than Jane Iredale -- it was smoother and the blush "glow" literally made my skin look luminous. Before I went on my two month trip to Europe, I bought a few different shades of Bare Escentuals makeup, so that I could mix to match my gradually darkening skin tone (as I was beach-hopping around the Greek islands). I found that my break outs got much worse, my skin became uncontrollaby oily and everyday that I put makeup on, my skin would break out more and more. It almost ruined my holiday!
SO, when I got back from my holiday, the first thing I did was switch back to Jane Iredale and go on a intense skin treatment regime. Now my skin is almost back to normal having taken accutane for about a month (and still continuing treatments) and back to using soley Jane Iredale makeup, mixing Bisque and Golden Glow to match my skin tone.
It could be that there were other factors that made my acne so bad during the summer -- constant change of climate (as I went through 12 countries in 39 days), high-carb diet, very little sleep, binge smoking and drinking... nevertheless, I'm curious: did anyone else with acne-prone skin find that Bare Escentuals makeup may have aggravated their acne? |

Yes, that could do it!
I haven't had any problems with BE though in terms of pimples. |

I had switched from liquid oil-free foundations to Bare Escentuals foundation back in April. My breakouts became less, although I still do get pimples, but not nearly as many as I did when I was using liquid foundation. Bare Escentuals gives a nice finish and their Mineral Veil is wonderful too, but find the only drawback is that it makes the fine lines around my eye area more prominent. So I continue to use liquid foundation just around the eye area. Other than that I love Bare Escentuals (and their eye shadows too!) |

Could it be the bismuth oxychloride ingredient that caused your breakout? I know that BE’s foundation has bismuth in it, but I’m not sure about the JI – I’ve been reading about so many different mineral makeups recently (BE, JI, Glominerals, Aromaleigh, hell – I even saw Leeza Gibbons on the Home Shopping Network last night hawking her own MMU line!!) that it’s hard to keep them all straight. But according to some of the more expert MMU users around here, this Bismuth stuff can be an irritant to some people. For what it’s worth, I’ve been using BE foundation #3 since 2001 with absolutely no problems whatsoever.

Is it possible to go into EDS for colour-matching? I'm assuming BE, JI and Glominerals are the lines used for the "Make Up Lessson". |

I use both BE and JI mineral foundation, and I haven't noticed a difference in terms of how each reacts with my skin. JI feels a bit more "dry" going on, but that's about it.
I'd put your reaction down to all the partying! |

Best call them up and find out. I don't think they keep everything in the salon that they actually sell online. |

I have tried both and I prefer the JI. I have normal to dry skin and JI seems to work better for me. I really like the blushes and eyeshadows since they don't have as much glimmer and shimmer as the BE do. |
