This is my first post so I hope I am doing this right!
Will Retin-A or Retinol worsen or help the very faint broken capillaries on my face? I have a small broken capillary on my nose and two very faint ones on my cheeks. The cell-turnover effects of Retinol creams would seem to worsen my broken capilaries, but the collagen-stimulatin effect could perhaps help?!
I am 25 years old and use a serum 2X day + SPF 30 zinc moisturizer and I am considering Retin-A to treat my slight acne (I get one pimple in the same place every month!). My dermatologist said it would be good for me to start with Retin-A now as a preventative anti-ageing measure while I'm still in my mid-20s and also to treat my monthly pimple.
However, I am worried that the Retin-A could make the small broken capillaries on my face even worse! Any advice? |

I have been using Retin A for 3 months now and have not noticed any worsening of my broken veins. I too was worried at first, but its been fine. Just use the Retin A sparingly every 2 or 3 days to start until your skin adjusts. I can now use it every night although sometimes I do give my skin a break and not use anything. |

I can not see any reason that Retin A would worsen broken capillaries nor make them better. Would not worry about that. Good luck. |

Thanks! Sounds like you both know what you are talking about...I called my dermatologist this morning and he said that Retin-A should not worsen the veins or capillaries on my face. So, I am going to get started on Retin-A tonight! |

I must just add that I had a sample of Green Cream (level 6) and have been using it for about 10 days now. I cant be sure, but I think it may be irritating my skin a little more as my broken veins are standing out more. It may be that its the different formulation, it does contain ethanol which can cause sensitivity although I dont think the amount is enough to do this. As I said in my last post, Retin A caused absolutely no problems in this way, I tried the GC as I thought it might be better if I am going to be a long term use of this sort of product. I am still going to experiment with both and see what I end up preferring. |

Yes, it's possible.
I think one of my past posts talk about it some more...
It can be caused by lots of other things too...sun exposure, heat, wind. Don't forget that Retin A causes photosensitivity and the cold worsens side effects as well.

If you are prone to them you will get them anyway. I love what retin a has done for my skin and the fact that I no longer have to use benzoyl peroxide to control my acne. I would rather have to have a few caps zapped than the oxidative effects of benzoyl peroxide. They say they can show up more when first started because of your skin turning over faster in the beginning but after you have been on retin a for a while and your skin rethickens or becomes thicker they will not be noticed. |
