I was prescribed this 2 years ago and it really helped with my spots and hair that I would get on my upper lip but now that I've discovered retin A I'm thinking I could stop taking the pill as it has risks associated with it, I have been reading on an acne forum however that people who have stopped it have seen their problems return 100% worse than before taking it has anyone had any experience of this I haven't taken for almost 2 weeks and so far so good but some said it took a few months for their issues to flare up again.
I just wish I had never started messing with my body's hormones scared of what's gonna happen. |

Lots of people stop taking the pill without any problems, or only a month or so with slight adjustment problems. But then, those stories never make it to the internet, do they? |

I went off the pill this past spring after being on it 7 years. A great decision overall. |

I went on it when I was 33 for adult acne/early peri symptoms. I went off it and on to bioidentical hormones, was tired of the side effects plus it didn't manage my peri symptoms well either.
I personally feel hormonal imbalances should be aggressively addressed with diet/exercise first. *Insulin* plays a huge role in acne/PCOS etc so first get the grains & milk out, exercise, do some intermittent fasting, etc-- try to manage it yourself first before going on a chemical drug that will shut down your hormonal system. The long term effects of bcps are not widely understood it seems, I've read they can cause elevated levels of SHBG (sex hormone binding globulin) long term. If I could go back in time I would have tried a little harder to change my lifestyle first. |
