I'm afraid it's a fraud you read about. I remembered my Bio teacher talked about it in class. He said back when he was a kid(at least 30 years ago), people use it as a hair product(like a hairspray or it can make hair shine? I don't quite remember the purpose). But it can bring damage to hair if use continually for a long time. Also, it's ingredient in some toilet/drain cleaner and bleacher, with very low concentration it can kill germs for medical use. But it can be really corrosive and dangerous. Drinking it may cause inflammation to your mouth cavity, oesophagus, stomach... It's totally forbidden in food processing industry.
I have never tried it and I don't think I'll ever dare to try it. |

Hydrogen peroxide basically functions like a bullet inside you. It certainly kills bacteria but your own cells get caught in the crossfire because it cannot distinguish between good and bad cells. There are much better and safer ways to stay healthy |

Dear Emma,
I think you can benefit from actually reading the link in the initial post. Lots of things changed for the last 30 years. There is such thing today as 35% Food Grade Hydrogen Peroxide. It is used in the production of foods like cheese, eggs, and whey-containing products. It is also sprayed on the foil lining of aseptic packages containing fruit juices and milk products.
As with any medication, you can not take any amount in any proportion. Even taking too much Aspirin can kill you. But in recommended doses Hydrogen Peroxide can help you with a huge list of health problems. |

I may agree about staying healthy.
But in case of severe problem, i think i would prefer to start with hydrogen peroxide. |

In those severe cases, I would start with a doctor :P |

I'm with oasisjc. Maybe some can actually benefit from consuming hydrogen peroxide internally, but it's still a risky thing to do. Why not try other ways which are safer and more promising? |

Right. Like injecting botox to solve your migraine problems, for example.
All i am saying is we need to keep our minds open. |

I oould not consider ingesting hydrogen peroxide. I do not understand how anyone would think that would be ok. |

This is one of the oldest snake oil treatments I know, back then in my youth there were quack articles saying how a certain concentration of hydrogen peroxide helps with almost anything, including cancer. Most recently a "doctor" claimed 0.5% H2O2 a day in a glass of water introduces additional oxygen into cells and increases human lifespan till 120 years. Over the years I've seen various claims, never one single proof. I can't believe people still consider it to true.
To my understanding, a low concentration of H2O2 gets neutralized by stomach acid, but it still can be dangerous due to it's corrosive nature, not to mention what would happen with 35%, just like the FDA article states. |

I really don't understand why everyone keeps saying about drinking 35% hydrogen peroxide if in every document is written that you have to first dilute it to 3% and only then 3% peroxide drops add to your water.
I agree there is absolutely no official research on this issue, but there were a lot of cases it helped real people with real problems. That's why the rumors are still around. And there are clinics around the world practicing this innovative methods and there are books describing real medical cases.
Regardless you may or may not consume hydrogen peroxide internally, i found it to be the best stain remover. I tried it already on several 5-6 years old stains, that would not go with anything. I haven't tried only bleach, because the fabric was dark blue with white strips.
Few drops of regular 3% peroxide tapped with cotton ball and the stain was gone! |

It's just another argumentum ad populum and not even a matter of opinion or beliefs. Might help to recall elementary school level chemistry, hydrogen peroxide decomposes exothermically (the fizz and bubbles; at low concentration mildly irritating and useful for induction of emesis in dogs, for example, at higher - highly corrosive, as pointed out by FDA) into water and oxygen gas spontaneously, and the reaction for that is: 2 H2O2 > 2 H2O + O2. No extra "free oxygen" for cells or O3 as the proponents of H2O2 therapy claim (reaction for peroxone can not happen in a glass of water). It's not possible, and therefore it doesn't work and that is why there won't be any research into that.
Appeal to historical use is misplaced as well, as is the notion of "real cases". I suggest a PubMed search. That's where the real cases are, and nothing is there about H2O2 cures anywhere, not in Germany, not in India as the proponents claim. Also everyone can write books that claim miracles, best examples for that are Perricone, M.D. or "Dr." Emoto, doesn't make their claims any more true. |

I can tell that having worked for 2 dentists and an othodontist during my college years all 3 touted the use of Hydrogen Peroxide as a mouth rinse. Anytime there was a mouth sore or gums that were swollen and bleeding, patients were told to apply it repeatedly via swab or rinse with it. We did it in the office for them as well. Usually a small amount gets ingested, which they were told in such SMALL quantaties it is not harmful. It was also used in a gargle.
I do it still to this day with mouth cuts, sore throats, etc., and I add 3 drops to my water, not a big deal. Its all in the amount, like anything.
Its a personal thing, like ACV. I take it everyday and it can be debated. Its been around for years, works for me. My great-grandmother drank a bit of it every day and lived to 98.
I think you ingest worse and can do far more damage by smoking or drinking sodas (especially Mountain Dew), which I don't, nor will I. I have seen the after effects on teeth. I use Coke to eat corrosion off battery cables and it works in seconds, so that is pretty scary!
I love using Hydrogen peroxide on a pimple, along with ACV, works great for that too. |

Yes, love it for stain removal as well.
And as with anything do due dilligence and use common sense along with porportion!
But an open mind is a powerful and wonderful thing.
We always say to the young people we mentor, bring me any idea no matter how small or dumb you may think it is. I won't shoot it down, just help you work through it. Use it or lose it, that's how new discoveries are made. |

Thank you AnnieR,
This is exactly what i was hoping to see. A word from someone real who actually does it.
Of course, everybody have heard of hydrogen peroxide based mouth wash. You can buy it in any pharmacy. Only that can be counted as a proof that it is not harmful for internal use in small quantities.
jazzi,
I hear what you are saying. I wish science could explain everything... |

Your welcome!
Just for grins,I just called my favorite orthodontist (whom I used to work for and am his daughter's BF and goddaughter to her child) to weigh in his opinion.
He still advises (to his son who runs his practice)and uses the daily rinse of hydrogen peroxide half strength for maximum mouth/gum health. He said that he bets he swallows more than the 3% mixed with water some days by accident and at 80 has not seen (nor read) any reason to stop.
Again, it is in the SMALL quantities. And he went one step further, it also depends on what you are using it for. Preventative maintenance is one thing, but any medical ailment should be addressed by your doctor. Self-medicating/diagnosing is a whole different concern! |

I use it as mouth rinse as well. Every dentist I know and their nurses approve of 1.5% use for rinsing, especially for stomatitis (not as cure thoguh). It even states so on the bottle of my H2O2. It also says never to swallow it. Dental use doesn't mean it's safe of internal ingestion.
I also do not dispute that H2O2 is amazing for cleaning out debris from wounds, removing stains and as a dental product or hair bleach and such. What I can not agree is the notion that consuming H2O2 at any concentration is in any way beneficial for cancer, diabetes, longevity or Alzheimer's, or that humans get more oxygen in their cells by drinking any concentration of H2O2.
What I find funny is how one part of population is adding H2O2 to water in hopes of curing something, while different people are paranoid about H2O2 from hair bleach leaking into their brain. Seriously? |

Enough with the rolling eyeballs and sarcastic comments here, please. That kind of tone is unnecessary and disrespectful of the other users' contributions.
Someone gently introduces a left of centre idea here, with an article which begins by acknowledging the reasons & safety concerns as to why it is & should be unpopular, and people still go off negating it all with what sounds to me are overly dramatic statements they purport to be facts.
Seems to me if you're putting it in your mouth a minute amount is going to be absorbed into your system. If small concentrations are not safe for ingestion no one would advocate ever putting it in your mouth.
I'm beginning to think we should have some seperate section or disclaimer for people who are into exploring new or challenging ideas on this forum without risk of others attacking the messenger. Where would we be on this board if everyone were like this? Certainly not massaging the face with oils. Certainly not using anything as "toxic" as apple cider vinegar or vitamin c acids on the face or (gasp!) needling. sigh.
And wow, people really run to their doctors & surgeons for everything, don't they? I research and make my own mind up, and if its something urgent or serious I'll go to my doctor, but often he doesn't know much if anything about alternative treatments (or supplements) since he's western educated and doesn't have the time or interest for the rest. I do respect his knowledge & opinion but had I relied on him entirely, I might be medicated up the... instead of researching simple, gentle home remedies and listening to how my body reacts first.
Just my two cents. Fire away. |

New or challenging ideas are fine, without them there would be no progress. Is this either? Hardly.
Fun fact, the man who came up with the idea using H2O2 for health benefits was a priest, Richard Wilhelm.
More fun facts, explaining the claim, it's origin and how it doesn't work and will never work, with references, so you don't have to take some eyerollers word for it: quackwatch (dot) com/01QuackeryRelatedTopics/Cancer/oxygen.html |

Well, to be honest, i introduced this article only because it was very descriptive and in English.
I started from the book (in Russian) written by professor Ivan Pavlovich Neumyvakin.
He has spend 30 years on research for soviet space program. He was mostly working on development methods and means to help astronauts with their health issues during flights of variable expectancy.
He has a lot of publications in Russian, but i am not sure if any of his books translated to English.
According to him there are some clinics in Russia practicing his methods along with other patented devices. |

And as I say in the mental health field and as the hubby does in the Home Inspection field, same principal applies: "It's not in the news, it's all in the delivery".
Tone, respect and compassion, it comes across just as easy in a post. |

YY,
Yes, I know about Russian "science". Torsion field generators, wonder cures, quack diagnostic devices, bionormalizers, cosmic energy harvesting pyramids, technocrat cults and other things that can not produce any results other than filling some one's pocket. Their supplement market is appalling as well. It's really sad.
The academic society in Russia itself is appalled about the rise of anti-scientific trends after fall of USSR, which had produced amazing discoveries, but now it's replaced pseudo scientists, with fake diplomas (can be purchased) and medieval thinking, due to leading minds leaving the country. Large parts of population in Russia have received low quality education, not going into their social issues here, but they are perfect pray for the myriads of con man there.
I've in fact looked into this professor's books, Эндоэкология здоровья and Скатерть-самобранка. He claims that injecting H2O2 (with a help of magnets and some drug) will increase energy in blood (he mentions a mysterious reaction in the book), increases metabolism up to 3 times and cures heart disease, all by increasing oxygen content in blood with help of IV H2O2. Basically - all the old claims from Richard Wilhelm, which have been disproved.
Those are not valid H2O2 claims that come from Russia. There are some real ones, like the drug Паркон, which has uses perfectly sound physiological mechanism based on very real data to help with Parkinson's disease and it's creators are very specific about no possibility of introducing H2O2 into living tissue, they outline the receptor mechanism which reacts to superoxide anion and by a chance also to H2O2 radicals. Since you read Russian, this is the drug: medkrug (dot) ru/medicament/show/7984 There also is a brief explanation on how it works. Very different from Neumyvakin's unrealistic and dangerous claims. |
