I am now on my second bottle of Cake Beauty Satin Sugar Hair & Body Refreshing Powder for Darker Hues, and I just realized that I haven't reviewed it yet. I love this hair powder! It works as a dry shampoo and volumizer. I can easily go several days without washing my hair now, and less shampooing has resulted in much improvement in my hair's condition. A little goes a long long way.
I have coppery light brown hair, and the Cake Powder for Darker Hues is perfect for my hair's color. I have used other dry shampoo powders that also worked well, but they were white and left an ashy cast to my hair. Cake does not leave an ashy cast.
Cake comes in a shaker bottle, like with talcum powder bottles. I get the best results by only opening one or two of the holes so that only a little comes out at a time. Be careful not to apply it on the scalp near where the hair parts, because then it will show on the scalp. Just lean the head so it is only applied to hair, or shake the powder out on a bristle brush and apply it to the hair that way.
I just saw that it is sold here on EDS, so whoot! |

I bought it for blonde hair but it didn't work so well for me but I will try it again using your tips and see if I have better luck! |

Jeannine~ Thank you so much for your review.
I have been wanting to try a good dry shampoo and this one has has been the one I am most interested in.
I have extremely limited use of my arms (without a lot of pain) and find it difficult to wash my hair as often as I would like/need to.
Being on a very limited income now with my disabilities makes the cost kind of "spendy" for me. So, I haven't wanted to order it without a good recommendation. Now I am anxious to try it!
Warm Smiles,

I guess I don't get dry shampoo. Does it really clean your hair? How does it work? I feel like I won't feel like my hair got cleaned without rinsing it out with water. |

Think of it more like an oil absorber. Like when the hubby spills oil on the garage floor and I pour cornmeal on it and then sweep it up. Its not all gone but the powder absorbs most of it.
For me it doesn't completely take the place of it but makes it less greasy looking and adds volume. I also use it right after I wash to "pep" it up, add volume and stay cleaner longer. It does take a bit more washing to get out the build-up though.
I love dry shampoos and have tried just about every brand but soooo many lines have one now that I am way behind! |

AnnieR, does it help stop the itchiness and does it flake? I mean if you often get flaky easily, wouldn't using dry shampoo add to that since the residue will be left on your scalp? |

That is a good point. I do have itchy skin/scalp and it really does not do anything for that. I do not have flakes though, but it does seem like it would make that worse. I would recommend something to reduce the flakes and treat the scalp before using one. |

I seem to flake when I use non-dandruff shampoo. I have to switch back to Selsun's Blue Natural to control the flakes, or the Neutrogena T-Sal or anything with salicilic acid 2%. I guess dry shampoo will cause me to flake more. |

Principessa also carries dry shampoo for darker shades of hair: notte breeze, which costs 12$ for 30g or 24$ for 125g. Here's how it's described on the Principessa Web site: "our new Notte Breeze means you gorgeous brunettes and darker hued beauties dont have to be quite as careful in your application anymore.
This dry shampoo is enhanced with beneficial extracts such as vitamin E, aloe, chamomile & calendula. This seductively silky multi-use powder is a refreshing treat, talc free (naturally) and designed to keep you shower fresh all day and smelling amazing with our isolina fragrance." I read good reviews about it. |

I love this stuff too! I've been using it for years and depending on my hair colour at the time, have used both the lighter and darker hues (currently I'm using the darker). This is perfect for the days I don't wash my hair (try to wash my hair every two days) to help soak up any oils and help disguise any regrowth. Plus, it smells so good!
I've tried dry shampoo's and nothing worked as well at this product for that purpose, and the dry shampoo's usually have a not-so-nice smell to them.
Definitely two thumbs up for me as well. |
