Hey guys New here!
Few things I am wondering:
Current routine is
AM:
cetaphil cleanser
toner
physical sunscreen
wait 20m
finacea
PM:
neutrogena gentle foaming cleanser
jojoba oil
wait 30m
retin-a 0.05% cream
No irritation whatsoever from the retin a (used for almost 3 weeks), though I am adding in a niacinamide cream.
When should I use that? I was thinking maybe in the AM after finacea.
2. Will vitamin-k applied topically reduce red-marks? Or is laser the only option. Note, I DO NOT have PIH, i have post-inflammatory erythema instead (red marks not brown marks).
3. I'm currently on minocycline, and basically clear, could I replace the mino for clindamycin? How would I ttransition/taper off mino?
4. I know that Benzoyl peroxide is often used with clindamycin to prevent bacterial resistance, would azelaic acid (finacea) do the same thing as it is an antibacterial?
Many thanks ![Smile](images/smiles/smile.gif) |

Hello and welcome!
Just some thoughts. Your sunscreen should go on last in your am routine. By applying finacea after you might not be getting its full benefits.
Also try retin-a on bare skin. Using jojoba oil before helps buffer skin from potential irritation, but it would also mean you are effectively using the retin-a at a lower strength. Wait 20min after you wash your face then retin-a.
If you are clear I don't see why you have to use clindamycin. |

Funnily enough, check out this!

Good point, but is there anything else I could use instead then? I use the jojoba oil to make it so the retin-a spreads well and I don't have to use much. Without it I end up needing twice as much.

only 95% clear and this is recent so going off oral antibiotics may need some reinforcements to prevent any new stuff. |

I agree Finacea should be used after toner in the morning. Sunscreen should always be the last step in your skin care routine.
At night the jojoba is buffering your retin-a which is fine but to get the full results it is best to apply to clean skin and then later apply the jojoba or what ever you want to use for a moisturizer. I would start off slow doing this though so help minimize the irriation.
This will help with your red marks. I don't think you need another product for the red marks. Over time the finacea and retn-a should clear them.
You are taking oral mino? How long? If you are taking 100mg try butting back to 50mg and see how you do on that.
Clindamycin topical works pretty well for fighting bacteria. For some, mixed with BP is a great combo. IMO I would not rely on finacea for antibacterial, although you can certainly give it a try and see how it works for you. |

The PubMed study you linked to is for typical "moisturizer lotions". Physical sunscreens work by sitting on your skin and physically reflecting UV. This should be the last in your routine.
Retin-a should ideally be used on bare skin. If it is absorbing (?) too fast to spread properly, you can try applying section by section. Do the right cheek first, then left cheek etc...
Hmm... I don't think Clindamycin is meant for prophylactic use. You probably already know about resistance to antibiotics. Since the retin-a is a recent addition, why don't you wait it out a bit more before deciding if you really need other weaponry? ![Smile](images/smiles/smile.gif) |

AusGuy, has Finacea been helpful for you? |

I agree that Retin A should be first before jojoba. You said that you use jojoba so you don't use as much Retin A. I think instead of looking for another product to add, use Retin A first and if you have to use a little more Retin A, well then use a little more. It is really amazing and powerful long term. Give it a few months before you add another product. |
