Hello!
I received my Shalaks Retin A Gel very quickly from All Day Chemist, however, I cannot find a listing of the ingredients in the gel base anywhere...not on the ADC or Shalaks website, and not on the packaging or package insert.
I contacted Shalaks who would not provide it to me because they do not sell to consumers, but made a point of telling me they do not sell at all to Western Europe or the U.S. I also contacted ADC who could not provide it because "no such information is available from the manufacturer." I wanted to know because I am sensitive to products with a lot of chemicals, but now I'm wondering what the big secret is. Are they maybe using ingredients banned in the U.S. or something? I'm hoping one of you might have been able to find the answer!
Thanks much for any help/input you can offer!

I've tried asking ADC the same thing, and they told me they don't have any information either. I tried emailing the manufacturer and they wouldn't respond to me either.... |

Why don't you just do a patch test? |

Thanks so much for your replies Firefox and oasisjc! Looks like I'm not the only one that got the brush off when trying to get more info. But I will definitely do a patch test, especially since it seems that the base ingredients will remain a mystery!

I could not get the information either. I am still using it, but would like to know the gel base ingredients also. I want to know just what I'm putting on my skin. Not just because it might cause irritation, but because I try to limit chemicals. Their extreme secrecy about it and saying that they don't sell to the US or Western Europe leads me to believe they are maybe using ingredients not listed as safe in these countries. |

I have no idea what's in it but I use it and have had good results. I'll keep following this thread because i would like to know what's in it as well.
I like the microgel retin from adc as well, maybe more than the shelaks. |

For some reason, the micro doesn't apply very well for me. It's hard to spread and it ends up drying up really fast, leaving streaks like a piece of chalk was taken to draw lines on my face. I ordered it in August, and the weather was really hot, so maybe that had degraded it somehow |

It does that same chalky streaky thing on me. I had the same worries, but I just use it right before bed. By the time I wake up, the streaky-ness is gone. My skin really responds well to it in the end so I forgive the chalky look. |

Have you tried the gel before? I recently switched to it and find it a wonderful substitute for the micro |

Is there a benefit to using the gel over the cream? I just got some from ADC, and I noticed that the gel "sits" on my face longer, and doesn't absorb as quickly as the cream did. Not unhappy with it, just curious. |

@oasisjc
Yes, I go back and forth between the Shalaks gel and the micro. Sometimes the gel is a little strong on me and I peel a bit more. Basically, I use the micro if I'm just going to bed straight after, and the gel if I think I'm going to be around anyone other than my partner.
What do you like more about the gel compared to the micro? |
