I was looking through the Mario Badescu site and I came across the Botanical Facial Gel for combination skin. It says that this contains Grapefruit Extract (Alpha Hydroxy Acid).
Now, on one of the threads earlier it was mentioned that AHA can be drying to the skin.
My question is whether grapefruit extract is always an AHA. Sorry if this sounds stoopid.
It's just that I've started to use Dermika toner and moisturiser and found that my skin feels very dry on my cheeks and nose - I even have flakey bits of skin, something which I haven't had since ditching the Clinique.
Could it be the grapefruit extract which is too strong for my skin?
Just in case you are not familiar with Dermika, it is a Polish brand and the toner can be found here: http://www.dermika.com.pl/english/mat_b/mat_toner.html and the moisturiser her http://www.dermika.com.pl/english/mat_b/mating_day_cream.html I mainly want to know whether these products do contain AHA, and whether it is this that it causing my dryness.
(I am not dehydrated as I drink 2l of water a day) |

No, but I'm constantly going to the loo. It's getting annoying now! And I thought it was meant to make you feel LESS bloated. Clearly I'm doing something wrong. This water thing aint all its cracked up to be .
So anyone know about the grapefruit extract then? |

That's a very good question rzecka! I wouldn't have thought of grapefruit extract as an AHA at all but I just read through some of the pages on the Dermika site and it clearly states that the grapefruit extract is "rich in AHAs". Btw, I have seen grapefruit added to facial spritzers for oily skin so I gather it is supposed to have some effect in reducing oil production. Having said that it would make sense that if you used too much of it then it might dry out your skin a bit.

Thanks for all your detective work Mabsy!
Come to think of it, I think it's all my own fault. I was too tight to buy the night cream, so I've been doubling up with the day cream at night. Maybe my skin just can't handle that cream twice a day.
Hang on, I'm actually using AHAs 4 times a day toner and moisturiser, day and night. Hmm..not good. Back to the drawing board |
