I was born in 1946, turning 66 in May.
For some reason I got to thinking today about the most degrading pair of shoes my mother made me wear in grade school (1950's). I went thru shoes pretty fast so she made me wear those gaud awful black and white oxfords. I so hated my mom during that time (God rest her soul). Of course I got thru it just as she knew I would. I wish with all my heart I could spend $3.98 and send her a mother’s day card next month.
My dad worked in the aerospace industry as a machinist during the war. He did sign up but for some reason he wasn’t accepted, maybe because of his age. I have 2 items from that time in our history. Ration stamps and a letter from Lockheed Aircraft Company about my dad receiving a $500 reward for some idea that was used. I am certain that $500 was a lot of money back in the 40's.
That was fun reminiscing; anybody else have something to share? |

Weren't black and white oxfords popular then? I remember wearing mary janes in grade school..with socks.
I went to the dentist today and my husband and I were reminiscing about how simple it used to be..just the receptionist and the dentist! Now any dental office has so many support people, no wonder the cost is so high. |

Frodo I was born in 54, but I had the oxblood tie up shoes and black "mary Janes" for dress occasions!(with socks)
I remember the Black and White oxfords very well, also called saddle shoes in my area.
Yes things were so different and much simpler in many ways. I did hate the seasonal clothing come September and school, no matter that it was hot in the DC area it was time to suffer through hot days in wool skirts and long sleeve shirts! |

I was born in 1944 in post-war Europe and can still remember ration stamps and "care packages" from relatives in the US. I particularly remember a fire engine red snow suit - it was soooo cute, but honestly nobody in Europe wore snowsuits, so I felt very self-conscious wearing it. I won't even get into having to wear the rubber overshoes I was sent too |

I was born in 60's. I remember those horrible navy blue knickers we had to wear at school and just them and a t-shirt for pe. OMG these days that would be called child abuse. |

LOL. We had to wear a navy blue one piece (short sleeve, short pant) snap up uniform with our first name on the front and last name on the back, mom's had to buy those white iron on letters or sew them on! We looked ludicrous in those things. Of course we had to wear white knee socks and standard sneakers! |
