Hi all,
I'm 22 years old (female), and recently noticed a "cracked" looking nasolabial crease on my right side. Creases of any kind are absent on the other side. The crease is superficial, not deep, and it looks like it's due to dryness or something. But what's strange is that I drink quite a bit of water, have a healthy diet, take vitamins (including fish oil), moisturize frequently, have a regular sleep schedule, exercise, and wear high spf sunscreen every time I'm outside. My parents have great skin for their age, so I'm perplexed by this stupid one-sided line! What could it be caused by, and how can I help it? I've done 3 sessions of the Tanaka massage, but only once a week because the rest of my skin is pretty good. Could it be my sleeping position? I sometimes wake up on either of my sides even though I try to fall asleep on my back.
I guess I should also mention that I live in a hot, dry California climate.
Thanks in advance. |

Hi cna,
Certainly sounds like sleeping position to me.
I can only think of a pretty weird solution for physically induced lines that worked for me once. Could you try sticking a thick bandaid or label over the crease just before you go to bed (ok - I never said it was an elegant solution) and try that for a week to see if it makes a difference? I'd do this after the nighttime regimen - you'd just have to make sure the label still sticks after whatever skincare you put on at night .
If it does make a difference, then I'd say that confirms it as a sleeping position issue, which I'd try to resolve in the future by smoothing that particular line with my hand and then lying that side directly onto the pillow. Some people say satin pillows are ideal. I don't think it makes much difference. I started doing this with a line developing between cheekbone and eye and it worked for me. All the best. |

I agree, it sounds like you're sleeping more on that one side. Try frownies. That ought to nip the problem |

Thanks for the tip! Do you think using bandaids could also be a cheaper alternative to Frownies? I would like to invest in some Frownies later on, but if bandaids work just as well, I may just keep using them... |

I have the same single line on one side, beginning around age 19. I'm in my 30's now and it never got any worse. I obsessively worked on it for a while with a variety of things to increase circulation, but once I got busy with life and stopped, it came right back... |

Sleeping position? Or maybe assymetrical facial movements/expressions? Smiling/laughing more to one side? Although at 22 expression lines shouldn't be a problem ... but it's another idea to explore |
