Hi All, I changed my skincare products to a whole different line.My face is flaming red after I wash off my make-up, and feels like sandpaper. It has been this way for about 2 weeks. I went and had a facial, so I could show her the products. She said one product has Retinol in it and I probably used to much on my face and to often. She said it is like getting a peel. She said to buy some cocoanut oil and keep applying it to my face. I did that and it is still red and rough feeling, and ichy.Any suggestions to getting my skin back to the way it was Thanks |

Hello gloria777,
Sorry to hear you are having such a bad time with your skin. If it doesn't calm down with just the coconut oil soon I would suggest seeing a dermatologist. |

I tend to agree, as much as I avoid going to the doctor unless necessary (or for yearly checks) I would see a dermatologist if my skin freaked out and didn't revert to normal.
Estheticians are trained (did it in cosmetology school) to a degree, but this could be an allergic reaction to an ingredient and or irritation.
I feel bad this happened, and hope you have it all sorted out asap. |

When my skin gets really irritated I use cortisone cream. I would give that a try but only for 2-3 days, as its not good to use long term. |

Thanks for the suggestions! I have been putting a calming oil that I bought from the same skincare line, that says for dry skin. It feels really good to put the oil on my face, but when I wash my face is when it feels like sandpaper and very red.I am hoping it calms back down to the way it was, if not then I guess I will have to see a derm. Thanks again |

Zinc oxide might be another option to consider. I've used it before with success for very irritated facial skin occasionally with a thin layer of vaseline (as recommended by my doc although, in general, it rarely agrees with my particular skin) over top to create a protective barrier. Things like calendula and blue chamomile also help to diminish irritation and redness (I used to have a stash of this for when I was experiencing flareups of irritated skin.) Good luck, gloria. I know how it feels and hope it calms down for you soon. |

I am sorry to hear that.... but I think you should stop using the skincare products and go to see the doctor asap. I used to have similar expereince as you before...red and even break out after shifting to some new skincare products... I didn't go to see the doctor immediatrly but waited after a month....eventually,that skin problems brought me lots of acne scar which I have taken nearly a year to get rid of it.....
So I think you should take immediate action but not to wait until it's too late...
Take care, gloria:) |

I had a similar problem a few months ago. I changed my skincare routine and added some products from a new line. My skin started peeling horribly, became rough and scaly and my eyes were puffy, etc. After seeing the derm and an allergist, it was determined that I was allergic to an ingredient in two of the new products. I quit using them and my skin is back to normal. I would see an derm. Both the derm and the allergist told me that this they frequently see this problem--particularly with anti-aging skincare products, particularly eye creams. Good luck. |

Was going to suggest that!
or else Benadryl cream, that has antihistamine that help with allergy and redness.
I can't use much cortisone-it actually makes my skin worse.
last year I had a skin irritation, went tot he doctor he tells me "use cortisone cream" gives me a prescription.
it made my skin worse, so I go back and he tells me "use a stronger cortisone cream".
that made my skin even redder and more worse.
So cortisone is not for me.
But I also did find Aveeno anti itch and Aveeno baby rash cream help a lot too.
and stuff with zinc is good for redness too. |

Thanks everyone for all the great suggestions. I did stop using the creams and serum that has the retinal in it. "Cuddles" my eyes are puffy also especially in the morning.
I guess I should have left well enough alone. I had been using "Glymed" products for a few years, and people would ask me what I use for skincare, then I changed to get some retinal and I think I used way to much and now I regret it. I will make an appointment with a derm and take my products with me and see what they say. Thanks again! I will let you know my outcome! |

Gloria,
I did have the same issue when I started to use Retin-A.
Except tap water, everything put on my skin made me red & irritated.
What I did was to stop using it and use jojoba oil (I only had this oil at that time) every night to calm it down. And it did; after 1 month, I started using Retin-A very slowly. |

Hey,
I have had this happen from using a retin a, tazorac, it's been over 3 weeks since using tazorac only twice and lightly exfoliating twice as well, and my skin has gone from poreless porcelain to leather, orange peel texture with huge pores, wrinkles in my forehead and indents appearing out of nowhere.
I'm freaked out and scared to death right now, my face still burns and looks god awful, I used to be mistaken for 5-7 years younger than I was and people would come up to me and compliment me on my beautiful skin, now I'm having dermatologists tell me "I've seen worse" and mistaking me for my mother's sister (and not as a joke). IM ONLY 23!
Someone please help me, I can't live if this continues, I'm got plenty of other crap to deal with, my skin was one of my only prides and joys. |
