After a lengthy visit with my dermatologist yesterday for assorted/various reasons, we are trying a back up to the Finacea treamtent for my Rosacea and Hyperplasia.
She prescribed Oracea along with continuing the Finacea cream, which I have tried before and then we are starting on Differin every other night rather than the Retin-A, which I cannot tolerate and flares up my rosacea. I have tried the Oracea before, never crazy about a low dose of any antibiotic long term, but she syas it is not really the same thing so I will give it another go. She thinks the Differin will help with my Sebaceous Hyperplasia which did not respond to lasers/burning off and grew back.
In about a month or so, I will come in for a medical grade IPL (as opposed to the spa-grade IPL's I have had in the past that were not effective, m...). This should help with both problems.
Once recovered from that and if the hyperplasia have not shrunk, she will start me back on the low dose accutane of 10mg. every other day. She wants to wait to start me on the accutane after the IPL because the accutane can cause extra sensitivity to the IPL. Since this is only about my 4th rodeo or more with accutane I am well aware of all the side effects associated with it, but low controlled doses have caused me less problems and really don't bother me at all.
I was ready to go back to the accutane now since it has the most effective in keeping down the flares and hyperplasia but I agreed that the IPL would be the next step.
So we will give it all a try and see how it works out!
Anyone else have any Differin experience? It is my first time trying this particular product. |

Can you talk about how your derm removed (or tried to remove) your seb hyperplasia. You have tried lasers and burning them off? What were you left with after each attempt? a hole or did it not budge?
As an esthetician I am not able to do much with them on clients but my husband has a few and probably wouldn't mind a little home surgery! |

My derm took a laser and "zapped" them which left a red "burnt" spot that peeled and then faded. The hyperplasia spots were back within a few months. She said I needed a second treatment of burning them off, but I had read that it usually has no lasting effect on them, just a red scar. I looked like a chicken pox patient who was prone to scratching! Horrible!
When I had my last spa grade IPL in May, it didn't do anything either.
I have personally removed them temporarily with Dr.Scholl's wart remover and TCA spot peels but they have always come back after a few weeks/months and again, leaves red scabs.
The only thing that keeps them under control is the Accutane since it shrinks them internally, which is where they actually form. It doesn't leave the external scabs/scars, they just fade/shrink away.
My derm says she will do the accutane course but wants me to try the IPL and Differin first. I felt I have already jumped thru her hoops for 4 years now by allowing her to burn them, prescribe meds and more office visits but I am willing to at least do one more IPL first.
So we shall see!
Let me know if you have any success. |
