I saw this article and I couldn't help thinking that yes maybe it is the watercress, or maybe its just the addition of 'some' greens, in that without knowing the peoples diet to begin with perhaps the addition of a good amount of any leafy greens would have been beneficial! There is a thread on here about green smoothies - smoothies are a great way to consume large amounts of greens in one go |

I personally don't think it's the watercress specifically, I just think it's the addition of healthy veggies that made the positive change.
I'm very much into greens and salads, and frankly spinach has a bigger impact on me. But I'm not speaking against it. Whatever works for people is good. |

Just curious Chlorophyll - Do you notice any difference in your skin when you consume the green smoothies using spinach? I am "trying" to have one watercress smoothie mixed with some fruits and juice in the morning every day since this past Sunday, but honestly it's almost intolerable. I never had watercress before and didn't know it was soooo hot (spicy)! I only used 1/3 of a bag because that's the serving size they recommend in the article and still...it gives me serious heartburn and I can't stand the taste. Now baby spinach or other greens ... no problem! Lol. Aprile |

Hello- not Chlorophill, (what a great name for a salad muncher!) but I have had the same problem - but I think its just what happens when it is mashed up in the blender - when I just eat it it really doesn't seem so spicy! |

Great article! When Dr. Perricone sponsored a diet on his facebook page, he advised eating watercress daily. I notice Dr. Fuhrman rates it one of the top nutrient dense foods, right along with kale.
I love watercress but its not easy to find and its expensive when I do find it. |

No I don't think it's just because it was mashed in the blender. Interestingly, I read online that watercress are considered "spicy herbs" and are not recommended for those with gastric or duodenal ulcers or those with sensitive stomachs because it can cause heartburn. But even healthy individuals should avoid eating excess watercress because it can irritate the stomach and urinary tract. I think I am switching to spinach and kale. I'm kinda bummed due to the article, but honestly I can't take another day of chugging the watercress smoothie...Ouch. ~ Aprile |

aprile,
What are you putting in your smoothie? I understand if you don't want to eat spicy greens (avoid dandelion!!!), but honestly I rotate watercress into my smoothie and it doesn't taste that different from other greens to me.
I use pineapple and/or blackberries, which tend to mask all other vegetal flavors.

Yes! Back before I started using decent topicals (and other methods, lol) cramming as much spinach and parsley into my diet as possible was the only thing that healed my acne. It also seemed to smooth out a scar on my knee, but that's probably my imagination.
I don't know what it is about spinach, but my body responds great to it. I only wish I could get it grown locally in mass quantities. Wish I had the space to do it myself. |

Hi Avalange,
I have tried everything!! I use about 1/3 of a bag (which is the recommended serving and the amount from the study) with a whole banana, strawberries, pineapple, blueberries, etc. NOTHING I do will cut the hot spicy taste. Honestly, I really wanted this to work for me ... but my gut is killing me from it!!!

Good to know Chlorophyll....I will try the spinach. However, I am not trying to get rid of acne ... I am trying to get rid of wrinkles. Lol! Best, Aprile |
