Ok, I thought I wanted to make my last beauty purchase for a while SkinCeuticals B5 gel..but now I'm reading good stuff about the Phyto+ and want to try it too. I'm only allowed 1 though!
I use the daily moisture and don't find it moisturizing enough at times. I have combo-oily, sensitive with acne skin. I don't have any spots that need lightening..just the occassional spot that last a few days after a zit heals.
Please tell me your experiences with using either of these products. |

Do you use Vit C already? If so, I would go for the B5 gel. The Vit C will help with the few spots you have.
I love the B5 gel. It boosts your moisturizer a bit and if you have oily skin you can use just the B5 gel and your sunscreen.

I have a sample of serum 10 I've been using...I plan to purchase a full size along with whichever one of these 2 I decide. The sample I've been using for 2 weeks now and I've got this glow I haven't had in ages! After this, no purchases until the school semester is over and I get a summer job.
I'm oily one day, dry the next. I think I need to start drinking water! Can I make a febuary goal to drink 2 glasses a day of water, and at least 1 mug of tea? |

I with you on both counts (the water and the vit C) I use SC Vit C 20 and I love it. It is the best thing that I have ever used for my skin. My skin is the clearest it has ever been!
I really have been making a concious effort to drink more water....I'll do if you do

If you're finding the vit C drying then I'd go with the B5. If not and you have some pigmentation that you'd like to fade then go with the Phyto+ (and ask for a sample of the B5 so you know for next time if you like/need it or not).
Lianne - How much (or rather how little) do you usually drink? My goal in Feb is to drink over 2L of water a day and that does NOT include tea and other liquids... You'd be amazed how much water intake can change the quality of your skin. I sometimes go through phases when I don't drink water much and only drink tea/coffee - when I start drinking 2L of water a day I can definitely see the difference! |

I'll definitely try with the water! I'm also trying to drink at least 1 glass of milk a day (yes, chocolate milk counts...my doc said if that's what it takes!)
I think I need to write down what I put into my body...I never remember and end up starving or eating way too much. It'll also help me confront the nasty diet pepsi habit.
I'm happy to hear the Vit. C is helping your skin get clearer. At first I got a bunch of zits, but I was also trying a sample of SC Retinol 0.5. That must've given me 'purge' zits. |

It is entirely possible that the retinal lured those under the surface blemishes out. Retinals speed up the natural turnover process of the skin (which slows down as we age) So when you start to use them, it may seem that the retinals are breaking you out, but it is really just bringing out what was already forming under your skin faster.
Drinking more water should help with the clarity of your skin, as well. How did you like the SC retinal. I have had many people ask me about it, but I have never used it. I have used retin-a forever, but not any of the OTC retinals.

Mabsy,
do I really have to tell you how little water I drink?
here's my usual/typical fluid intake per day:
-2 cans diet pepsi
-1 nonsweetened ice tea
-1 tall glass of milk
-1 small glass fruit juice
-1 to 2 large mugs of herbal tea.
Liz,
I liked the SC retinol. I got 4 uses out of the sample I got. I really liked how easily it went on. It made me want to keep touching my face is was so smooth. I did find the .5% a bit stong b/c I've never used a retinol before (I was using it 2x per week). When I do buy the full size I'll only use it once or twice a week til my skin gets used to it.
Okay, I think I'm going to get the B5 and ask for a sample of the phyto+
Thank you all for your input! |

Hi Lianne -
Although I think you may have done this already, I think the B5 is a super product to order from SC. I use it every day in the winter. This really gives my skin an extra shot of moisture, and I put it on before the SC Emollience or Rosa y Fruta Ambrosia (my two fave moisturizers!) I also wear mineral makeup and if my skin is a little dehydrated from it, the B5 is hugely helpful.
I have the Phyto +, and it is supposed to help with pigmentation, but alas, it didn't do much for me, which is why I recommend the B5 first. However, we are all different so maybe the Phyto+ would work better for you than it did me.
I am now using a product from Janson Beckett that is supposed to help with pigmentation. Ian recommended it for me (its from their Spa line). I don't want to jump the gun, but I think I may be noticing some evening of my skin and some fading of the pigmentation. It may be too soon to tell, and of course b/c I'm impatient, I already have another product on order, but if the JB product continues to work, I'll be so happy!

You really can tell any differences when drinking a lot of water? I have to force myself to drink water then .... I virtually take coffee as my water intake. |

I used Phyto+ faithfully for at least 5 months and didn't see any change. On the other had, the B5 gel is one of my absolute favorite products, so my vote goes for the B5 gel!! |

happygirl163 and Christine - I can definitely tell the difference! Obviously not when I drink water on a regular basis but if I have been bad and I all of a sudden drink 2L a day then after a few days my skin is more glowy & even toned and just looks healthier in general. It probably depends on the person though and your diet as well (mine is pretty poor ). I have another friend though (who eats pretty well) and she reckons that she sees a big difference as well in her skin. |

Water keeps the skin hydrated and if its not hydrated then it drys out and when its dehydrated, it wrinkles. Alot of lines and wrinkles around the eyes are due to dehydration. Im also guilty of not drinking the water but I have made a conscious effort over the past two weeks.
How about those vitamins lianne, remember your promise. |

Thanks Mabsy, i guess i have to start drinking water seriously from now, also i just got a cold, every ppl just keep telling me to drink and drink but i just... can't. (At least today i drank about 2 L)
I'm also taking a supplement called "Liver Clear," It's made in Sweden. The ingredients are Yeast extract, Aloe Vera, and Pollen extract.. has anyone heard about this? I got it from HK. I don't really know what's it for, but my friends told me that it helps brightening your skin.. so i give it a try. |

My pleasure! Of course this will work on an honesty system where you have to report how much water you drunk Somehow I don't think it's going to work!
Christine - I know how you feel. I find it hard to drink a lot of fluids when I have a cold. I find that flavor helps, and, perticularly when you have a cold, warm water with honey and lemon is nice and comforting |

i have the B5 and the Phyto+. when i called the people at SC to ask how to use all my products, they said it would be redundant to use both because the Phyto has some of the same ingredients, specifically hyaluronic acid. |

i can't believe you don't drink any water!lol I have a glass of fuit juice in the morning, half juice/half water and then just drink water throughout the day.Sometimes i don't feel like having water so i have ribena lite diluted so you can only tell its there because its pink but you can't really taste it!lol i sometimes have a hot choccie at night though, shouldn't really but they are lovely. I have diet pepsi if i'm in mc'ds or somewhere!but i don't really like to,or really like going to those places! You really should try and drink more water,it gives you more energy and keeps you hydrated. If i don't have a drink of water for a couple of hours then my head starts to hurt! |

Nat,
you're definietely right! For some reason I just don't like plain old water. Maybe I'll slice up some cucumber or lemon and put it in the fridge...that'll make it more appetizing. I do drink water at the gym...but I haven't been so good about going there lately. |
