Hi everyone,
I want to say that I am a long time fan of the site and have been checking it, but its my first time posting. I searched the site and couldn't find anything, so hopefully it isn't repeated!
I am in my early twenties and have been searching for a good skin care routine that I could stick with and get good results with. Bad on my part is that I haven't stuck with something consistently for more than 3 months at a time, so i am hoping to do better this time. I was wondering if you guys can give me advice in regards to my routine.
I have recently been doing the Honey & Baking Soda and ACV Toner routine at night and have been following that up with an Aloe/Coconut oil moisturizer. (although my face did breakout with the coconut oil!! Anyone else have this problem too?)
I have recently gotten into the whole DIY thing and have been thinking about using Vitamin C serum, as a measure against anti-aging, although I was thinking of starting with maybe a 2.5%, and increasing from there.
But here is where my questions start:
1) Is it possible to be using the AVC toner and the vitamin C serum combo at night, will one not affect the other somehow?
2) And I have been reading more about the Oil Cleansing method and I was wondering if I could combine that with the Vitamin C serum moisturizer and what the main difference between the OCM and the Honey and Baking method is. Is there a difference? Is one better than the other? Which one do you guys use/recommend?
Anyway, sorry for the long post and thank you in advance for any advice you can give me or any recommendations or tips from your own routine! |

Hi, Welcome!
Can you explain what the Honey + Baking Soda + ACV toner is and what it is supposed to do? I have never heard of it. What results have you seen?
I can comment on a few other things:
Coconut oil: yes, it makes some people break out. My skin is dry and I can't even use it! What is your skin type?
Vitamin C: you can definitely start higher than 2.5% - most people start with 10% and work their way up to 15% (some even do 20%). I can use L-AA, irritates me at any percentage.
I am sure someone else will jump in.. just let us know your skin type to help us come up with a recommendation.

Also wanted to add this about OCM:
I believe the concept of OCM is that "like removes like" so oil will breakdown excess oil in our skin (like clogged pores and blackheads). |

Hi erg and thanks for your reply.
I came across the honey + baking soda method of cleansing when I was living somewhere temporarily and needed some natural cleansers that I had on hand. You can find more info at: crunchbetty website or by just searching the honey wash method. (Sorry I can't post the link, but can PM it if interested, just let me know!) It is similar to the Oil Cleansing Method and is meant to rid skin of makeup, and dirt, moisturize and restore the PH balance (with the ACV toner, which I now know has to be unfiltered!!!).
I have combination skin with the oily T-zone and borderline dry cheeks area!
And for the Vitamin C serum, if i was to start the OCM, would I need to completely clean my face of the oil, Before applying the serum? Because I know a layer always remains. Or can I just apply it with the oil? I ask this because there are recipes for oil soluble and water soluble recipes and I am confused by all the information out there!
Thanks again!! |
