hi, i have med. brown hair that was once dark blond but once i had my first child my hair darkened. i have been dying my hair with drugstore bought dye that has an extra lightening ingredient. The results i get are a med-dark blond colour. i used to have my hair highlighted at a salon with bleach which i think is too harsh for my fine hair, but i have since been told that store bought dye is actually harder than using bleach. since i already have colour in my hair will i not have to use bleach to lift the colour? i want to go to a salon and dye my hair back to its natural colour and than have highlights, but are bleach highlights the only answer? is store bought dye harsher than bleach? gaffer |

I will only go to the salon to get colour done because when I tried at home colour I turned my hair piss yellow....

orange? That sounds worse than neon yellow!
At least we can laugh about it now! At the time (14 or 15 years old) I wanted to die! |

Gaffer -
I’ve been away for awhile, so I might be too late to offer any assistance, but...are you still looking for advice on coloring your hair? I’m not a professional stylist, but I’ve been coloring my own hair or having it professionally done since it first started going grey at age 15, so I think I’m qualified to give you an answer...I just need to know what color is your hair right now, and what color do you want it to be? Is your hair in good health right now or is it dried and/or damaged?

Gaffer,
It was a long time ago I did that and I had not a clue. I now do Natalie's and I am much better. Products are also better. If I were you I would take up carekate on her offer of advice. Home haircolouring is so much more practical than trawling off to the hairdressers and paying a fortune every few weeks.
Good luck though with whatever choice you make. |

Thats questionable! hehe
But yeah i agree you should do it at home unless your hair is in really bad condition then you should go to the haidressers and get them to do it as they will put treatment on it but if your hair is fine then it would be better to do it at home and you can choose the perfect colour then
Good Luck |

hi carekate. my hair is med. brown, used to be dark blond in summer, light brown in winter, but pregnancys darkened it. i hate the darker colour. i use to have it highlighted, but the salon used bleach and it was hard on my hair. years ago i had cut my hair super short and have been growing it out now. it is long now, past my shoulders, and have been taking great care of it as growing out, very little dryness or damage. i have been using hair dye to cover grey. the dye has an extra lightening lift to dye it to a dark blond. it is nice but if i lift a strand of my hair up it is like looking at the life circles of a tree's years. i can see all the times i dyed it. it is not that noticeable unless i lift my hair. now if i go to a salon, than won't they have to use bleach because colour can not lift colour? won't bleach be worse than home hair dye? i heard that home hair dye has lots more chemicals in it. bleach or hair dye? thanks gaffer |
