Hello,
I've been using Cream de La Mer for over 2 years and it's amazing for me. I have oily skin in my t-zone with acne / blackheads. But my skin is also very dehydrated and flaky in those same areas.
I tried la mer on a whim - they gave me a free sample at Holt's. And it was amazing from the start. It hydrated my skin without being oily. In fact, at the end of the day there was NO oil on my skin - it seems to prevent oil from building up.
There have been times where I've tried to find a cheaper alternative because of the bad press about the huge price tag and on recommendations from estheticians. One time I tried Phytomer products - extended day youth cream and comodegel with disastrous results. My skin was very red, flaky and dry - I couldn't leave the house without foundation, which I hardly ever wear to begin with. So I tried a Phytomer hydrating mask, along with many others. It seemed like I was buying products to combat the many different problems my skin developed.
Finally, after a few months, I went back to La Mer and my skin cleared up immediately. I know it's overpriced and I do feel guilty. I don't believe you have to spend buckets of money on skincare, but nothing else works as well for me. If you consider all those products I bought during that time, I'm really saving money with this product. With La mer, I really only use Cetaphil Cleanser and the La mer. I don't really need any other products.
Hope this helps! |

I've tried CDLM and find that it only works well for me when my skin is super stressed. I used up the whole pot but would not repurchase as I would rather spend my money on Cellcosmet. I get no benefit from daily use of CDLM, but keep in mind that I have normal to combo skin which is not sensitive.
If I wanted to try something similar to CDLM I'd opt for the Dr Hauschka Rose Day cream nowadays - many people liken it to CDLM plus it's also HEAPS cheaper and has a similar texture and moisturising abilities.
I do know that there are many people out there who swear by CDLM so it's just one of those things that you might have to try for yourself and see what it does. Get a sample of it first - it will last you quite a while and give you an indication of its effectiveness for your skin.

Thank you both very much for your help, I quess that i'm just going to have to go out and get me a few samples. Colleen I've been using Cetaphil for about 2 years, I loved it. Until recently i've found out that the alcohol in the cleanser is not so great for your skin. But then who knows what good and not good. i'm trying out a cleanser for prescriptives skin feels very soft and silky. i've seen that La Mer also has facial cleanser but $65 is a bit much for me.. Maybe in the next life time Thank you both again |

Skinprofusion...
I find the Cetaphil Daily Moisturizer is great, not too drying and very gentle. I use it in the morning when my face is already pretty clean. At night I used a Glycolic cleanser as the Cetaphil is not great at removing makeup - when I'm wearing makeup. I also use the Cetaphil Moisturizing Cream on occasion. It's great in the winter, but it can be a little greasy in the summer. |

Hello Everyone,
I have very dry, dehydrated skin and I purchased Creme de la Mer thinking it would be the "miracle" cream for my dry skin leaving it glowing and luminous and young and beautiful (no, I didn't think I was expecting too much from this cream because all of the hype gave me high hopes and expectations.)
I found the cream to be extremely unremarkable. Oh sure, it's moisturizing but that's about it - it absolutely does nothing else.
I much prefer Dr. Hauschka's Rose Day Cream and consider it to be an excellent substitute that gives you that "La Mer" glow. But, the Rose Day Cream, to me is more nourishing for the skin being made from pure botanicals especially rose. I feel "Rose" is the best botanical for mature, dry skin. |

I've decided that as soon as my strivectin runs out I'm getting Dr H's rose cream to replace it! I was kind of under the impression that it was a bog standard moisturiser, but I have recently read sooooooo many reviews and this one has just clinched it! Could someone please confirm if it actually smells of roses? I don't mind if it doesn't but bonus if it does! |

I'm on my 4th jar of La Mer and just LOVE it! At my age I should have sagging skin/wrinkles, I dunno if its LaMer or good genes, but my skin is pretty nice for an old broad
They have a new product out now and on my last purchase of the moisturizer I snagged a free sample. Its the "Lifting Face Serum" and "Intensifier" - retail price $375 Cdn The intensifier is used on areas requiring the "most support" (quoting sales woman). I do have to say the Serum gives a nice rosy glow but I'd rather just slap myself than pay that price

Are you talking about cetyl alcohol? That isnt a drying agent..its an emollient. I would suggest researching the ingredients you see instead of assuming something that says alcohol is drying/irritating. |

I've used the CDLM cream and serum -- I didn't bother with the eye cream - just used the reg cream and got great results. It really seemed to boost my skin tone....which brings me to the Dr H Rose Cream -- I too, have heard *so* many good things about it that I'm going to pick it up as well....

I love the dang stuff! wish my skin didn't! Tried a sample and I was sold. When my skin is breaking out from testing tooo much product or hormonally or haven't issues in general I turn to La Mer and it clears it right away. It seems like any skincare, 50 love it, 50% hate it. It breaks out some. Definitly sample it first! |

If he is indeed talking about cetyl alcohol or stearyl alcohol they are generally non-comedogenic but not always (as with any ingredient). According to zerozits.com both are rated as a 2 on both comedogenic and irritation scale. Neither cetyl or stearyl alcohol bother my skin but it looks like there's a potential for it on some.
Skinprofusion if you loved using cetaphil I'd continue to use it if it's doing the job. If it was irritating at all you'd certainly know it by now. I don't remember you saying it was drying to your skin, but I might have missed something. My son always used Cetaphil until I bought him Dermalogica Ultra Calming Cleanser. He loves it and won't use anything else now.
I tried CDLM and loved the scent, but using every night was disasterous for my skin as it brought on a multitude of blackheads that I thought I'd never get rid of. I still have some though and use it every now and then when I need extreme moisture in my eczema areas. |

I've wanted to use CDLM for the longest time...I've read all the stars use it...but it's so expensive. Not anywhere near in my budget. But the Rose Day cream sounds like something that I could afford...and I love the scent of roses. My grandmother had a rose garden - they always remind me of her. So this would be great.
I'll look online...but if somone could tell me where the best place is to get the Rose cream that would be a big help. |

Ok, what is in the concentrate and can we find a similar product that does not cost $325.00!!! I could just see my cat eying that 325.00 bottle and gently nudging it off of the counter and onto the bathroom floor Believe me, he's done it before!!!
As for the cream, isn't there a "special' way you are supposed to apply it...a patting motion or something strange like that. I know they have a matte lotion in the line for oiler skins, but i can not believe it is any better than all of those other lotions out there. Is it all just the power of suggestion...hum joani |

if i remember correctly there is losts of seaweed ingredients in the concentrate, and silicones, lemon, yes the cream your to warm between ur hand and then pat it on your face. i've tried both lotions. didn't care much for them. there is different ingredients in the cream then the lotion and i mean way different. |

hi everyone! this is my first post.
ive tried it, about a year ago, and basically it made my normally unblemished skin break out into congested bumps. my skin is a little on the dry side with redness and i was hoping the CDLM would help with the red. nope. i stuck with it, hoping it would somehow clear itself up and get me to the glowing pretty un-red skin i wanted. after about 3 months of usage i gave up and gave the CDLM to my mom, on whom it worked much better. shes been using it now since and loves it. her skin is much more dry than mine and sun damaged. so i guess its not meant for me as a moisturizer, but i am going to get the concentrate in case any problems arise.

skinprofusion My skin runs in the normal to dry range depending on the season, and I love the La Mer products that I use. It is expensive but on those times when I cheat and try other brands, I go running back. For my skin, I don't think the cleanser is anything special nor the toner for that matter. And I hated the Sunscreen 18. It was an oily mess to me though many like it. The eye balm is kind of questionable to me. It is nice, thick and moisturizing, but doesn't seem very special in any other way. When I finish mine off, I probably won't get it again.
I love the Creme de la Mer, but only use it at night most of the time unless I really need that kind of moisturizing during the day for some reason, but that day is rare. I put in on at night and it does look a bit shiny. My husband will comment once in a while, but after it has been on for a few hours or when I wake up in the morning, it sinks right in and my skin feels wonderful.
I also like the CDLM lotion for the face. It blends in wonderfully and moisturizes more lightly than the Creme, and makeup looks great over it. I confess that sometimes I use a different brand that has sunscreen built when I don't want to be bothered in adding sunscreen over the CDLM lotion. But if I am going out at night and don't need sunscreen or if I really want the look of the lotion and the look of it with makeup over the top, I'll quickly reach for this. They also have a more oil free lotion I believe, but I have never used it.
And now we get to the serum. I have read seveal times that some folks consider this just hype and no good at all and I will agree that it is way way overpriced. I think you can still get just the plain serum for $175- already not cheap, or they have their new serum with the serum and then this lifting serum for lines included in the box. Well a while back I debated for a while and bought the new serum and lifting serum intensifier with it. It was about $285.
The unfortunate thing was that I loved it, but can not convince myself to buy another one. At least not at this time. When I got low, I bought myself a Valmont serum, also not cheap but still much better priced. The Valmont one is okay, but not as good as I had hoped and doesn't hold a candle to the CDLA serum. I'll use up the Valmont though, but then I will have a decision to make. I can't bring myself to the thought of buying the new serum by CDLM serum for that $285 or right about, but I fear that I might convince myself that the regular serum without the lifting serum included at that price of $175 MIGHT and only MIGHT tempt me to get it. It is still outrageously priced.
I'll have to see if I completely lose my mind. I know that some folks think that the Serum and most of the CDLM products are just expensive hype, but they work wonders for me.
A word of practical advice if you are thinking of trying some of their products. If department stores that sell La Mer are near you, find out when they are having a store event or when La Mer is having an event for that matter and do your purchase then. Here near me you have to buy a certain amount of product $75 or $100 something like that. Which is not hard at La Mer because almost everything costs that. During these events you buy something at La Mer and then you get a nice goody bag of samples. Pretty good ones too. This is also a good time to ask if they have samples in something not included that you are particularly interested in and see if they have it. There is almost always a small container of the Creme de la Mer in the samples, plus possibly the serum, eye balm etc. If any aren't included ask for them. They almost always have the facial lotion on hand in very small sample packets whether they are included or not in your goody basket.
If you do not live close to any of the stores that carry La Mer, you can always look up places that do carry it and do the same as above in asking when the events are, what is to be included in the goody bag and what other things you would like to try. Then with a credit card number, they can mail to you. My rep a Saks if I can't get in or just don't want to come in mails mine free of charge. But we are in the same town, bought things before etc. Either way you should ge able to get it mailed to you one way or another.
I hope some of this is helpful to you. I know that it is really wordy and long. |

Wow thanks for the reply, like I said before not everyones skin is the same..what works for me might not work for you, i'm glad that they do for you, also about the$285 serum..Now they made it so that you don't have to buy both at the same time. you can get one or the other. $210 for the face and $135 intensifier which comes in a bigger size at .05oz compared to .03oz so in the end they do come out costing more but your getting more product as well.. |

skinprofusion Thanks for the info on the new serum prices. I have always justified that the Creme and Lotion were okay because it takes so little and lasts forever. Rationalization at its best. The serum was a much harder idea to live with. I changed my mind several times before I broke down and purchased it. Still think it was great for my skin, but I don't think that I would be able to talk myself into it again at the $285. That is just too much money for me to spend. I'm glad that they have split the serum and intensifier up. I could skip the intensifier to tell you the truth. I never could tell that it did anything above and beyond what the serum did on its own. My skin looked so great when I used the serum though. Ah well. I have vowed to use up my Valmont one before I buy another serum of any kind. I hope that I will be able to find serum that works as well on my skin as the La Mer.
I should have mentioned in my first post that Cetaphil hates me. It breaks me out and my skin does not respond well to it at all. I suppose that could be a big clue that we possibly just have completely different skin that reacts differently to products. I wish that the La Mer creme had worked out better for you, but at least your wallet is happy about it. |
