Hi girls,

I am not a good cook, so sometimes I just eat popcorn for dinner, thinking it's basically just plain corn, it can't be that junkie, or is it ?? what do you think ? I know the butter and salt is not good, but what if it's just plain popcorn ?? any nutritionists on this board ?

Thanks,
D Smile

I am not a nutritionist but do own my own fitness center and would much rather eat popcorn than potato chips. I take good care of myself and eat for the most part healthy and think popcorn is a wise choice.

It depends a lot on how you try to eat , for example low fat popcorn is just that but high in carbs. I realize popcorn isn't exactly healthy but think there are worse choices.

I rambled sorry is one of those days lol.

oh SMARTIES Drool I used to paint my lips with the red ones when I was a kid, haha Razz

Exactly my point, there are worse snacks out there, and how can corn(it's veg) be bad to your health after it's popped ?? and it has fiber in it.... (as you can tell, I am trying very hard to MAKE it a healthy food)... Embarassed

Popcorn is a good snack as long as it's plain. No butter or toppings, only a slight amount of salt.

It's has very little nutritional value so popcorn for a meal is not good. You'll be lacking in the vitamins and minerals your body needs. When I'm pressed for time I grab a bag salad, a bun, slice of cheese, slice of turkey luncheon meat, and a piece of fruit for desert or Grapes and apples to toss in my salad.

I LOVE POPCORN TOO!!! I'm chef on a yacht so I can cook, in fact I love to, but sometimes I don't feel like eating a meal even though I cook one for my husband. I'll fix myself a bowl of popcorn, add a mix of half butter/half olive oil, grate romano cheese over it and then tabasco chipotle. My mouth is watering as I'm typing this. If I wasn't already preparing something really yummy tonight, I'd go for popcorn. I don't do it often and although I agree that it's junk food, I don't think it's going to kill me if I eat it once in a while. I don't drink and I can't have chocolate or caffiene anymore so I reckon this is a fairly harmless vice! Liz

I love popcorn as well but I can't handle it when it's not done with salt & butter - bring on the bad stuff I say! Laughing I think that by itself it's a healthy snack - but not a replacement for a meal. Mind you, I sometimes skip dinner and just eat junk food (pretzels, Tim Tams, buttered popcorn etc) so you're not alone Smile

Oops, sorry! Tim Tams are Australian Chocolate biscuits. They're very yummy and quite famous (although apparently not famous enough! Laughing ). I know of quite a few people that stock up on them when they come visit Aus. http://about-australia-shop.com/timtams.htm

I just tried a new flavour today (as a snack, not dinner this time Smile) - "chili choc", unusual but nice Smile

Popcorn was my staple snack when I was on Weight Watcher a year ago. I would get really hungry at night and would pop me up low fat popcorn. The whole bag I believe had 3 points. Need to get back on WW as I gained some weight over the winter. Popcorn will be a must have to keep away the hungries. Laughing

rzecka - I have a heart condition and until I have surgery to correct it I had to give up all caffiene including my beloved dark chocolate. I've been on meds to see if I can live like this but I'm giving more and more consideration to the surgery. Yikes! Shock

Butter on popcorn? How strange?!? I don't like salted popcorn but i like sweet popcorn from the cinema which is the worst kind Very Happy.

Plain Popcorn is healthy as its low in fat and tastes nice so its good as a snack but shouldn't be eaten as a main often as it has no nutritional value.
