I'm one of the many looking to replace my beloved Devita solar block now that the formula has changed. Along with my fellow devotees, I'm looking for a cosmetically elegant, pretty natural, mineral-only sunscreen for daily use on my face that isn't astronomically expensive (yes, I know I seem to be asking for the moon!). I just came across a new possibility that I haven't seen before: has anyone tried Beauty Without Cruelty's Vitamin C with CoQ10 Facial Moisturizer SPF 17? http://www.beautywithoutcruelty.com/item.php?item=045472
This appears to be a newer iteration of their SPF 12 sunscreen... (Perhaps just a realization that 14% zinc is higher than SPF 12?) I'm wondering how it might work as my daily facial moisturizer. Again, it doesn't need to be beach-worthy; I just need it to keep me protected from incidental sun exposure on office days. Thanks! |

I would introduce the Aubrey natural sun spf30.The zinc oxide is 12%.It smells like ice cream. And it's about 11-13 USD. |

Thank you Cali. Can you tell me more about your experience with the Aubrey product? Is it very thick? Does it leave much of a white cast? Any details would be appreciated! |

I was wondering this as well.
I guess that I might have to buy the product and see for myself. |

Hi Veronica,
I realized that I DID try this but only posted my review over at the thread on sunscreen recommendations. http://www.essentialdayspa.com/forum/viewthread.php?tid=48440&start=100
Here's were my thoughts (I wasn't thrilled!): Beauty Without Cruelty's facial moisturizer with CoQ10 (spf 17) is what I've come to expect from a typical zinc sunscreen: thick with a nice white cast, impossible to spread on skin if it is at all damp. White cast pretty much stays put. Using this on my arms and hands now for the bike commute home from work.
Despite it not being anywhere near what it used to be, I'm still using Devita, and I alternate between it and Avalon Organics Vitamin C Renewal Lotion (SPF 15)--not as high as I would like in SPF, and it does have a bit of a white cast, but at least I can get it to rub in! It's all right under makeup...
Hope this helps! |

I would like to know more about Aubrey Natural sunblock spf30. Wondering if it goes on well and if there's white residue. Spring is here and I am looking for decent sun protection prodcuts. |

I would not count on oils for sunscreen protection as per Lin's post.
Quote from the link:
Make Your Own Safe Sunscreen Oil:
All you need is equal amounts of a few amazing and natural oils:
Avocado Oil, Sesame Oil, Coconut Oil and Sweet Almond Oil!
I think these types of posts are very misleading. |

I think the blogger is misleading people into thinking a mix of oils is sunscreen. This is tanning oil. |

I would rather buy a sunscreen that has a proven record of protection. Sunscreen is NOT an item to try to save money or skimp on.
I think a lot of bloggers should NOT write about skin care. I am not sure where this blogger is getting her information or spf calculations. I disagree with her remark on tanning. Tanning is a sign of sun damage; not protection for skin.
I understand it is very difficult to find a good sunscreen. IMO there is better choices. |
