Hey all, I'm 41 and I dont typically break out anymore (used to over 10 years ago). But lately I find that the area below my nose and above my lips seems to get irritated a lot. Almost every other day, it ends up with a clogged pore that looks like it could turn into an angry red zit. My tactic is to leave it alone, because if I mess with it or try to apply anything over it, it will get worse. It almost seems that this area does not like serums being applied on it (I use a Vitamin C serum, an HA/B5 serum, and sometimes copper GHK). Serums travel from the nasolabial area to the upper lip area quite easily...should I just avoid my whole lip area? Has anyone else experienced this and what could it mean? It's more humid now, but I dont spend much time outside anyways.
I just think it's weird considering that a year ago, my skin was fine and literally NEVER broke out anywhere or even looked like it was going to. |

well, since no one is answering my question
So what happens is I get this red flare up around the pore and then, if I dont touch it, by the next day it shrinks down. I see a microscopic whitehead, but to the naked eye it doesnt look horrible like a zit. It does seem like that area is having a chronic allergic reaction to something. I guess for now I will need to keep topicals away from my upper lip area.
I've had three such flareups in the last week. Also have a pimple on my neck and I havent had one there for a long time.
Going to have to wash my bedding more frequently perhaps. |

I very rarely get a pimple on my neck and it is always because I am trying to use too many products on that area at once. If I just back off it goes away. Of course it takes forever but it does go away. |

It's really weird. All I can think of is the excessive heat we are having on the east coast. But it was hot last year too and I just didnt have this. Maybe the combo of vitamin C + E serum and the heat combined?
Yeah, it's just kind of there. I guess it could be worse. But when I get that potential zit formation above my lip, I get really upset...I used to have bad acne when I was younger and so now, ANY zit or even threat of one freaks me out. |

though i never had to endure severe acne, the best thing I have discovered for a minor superficial pimple is an antibiotic ointment...
may be u r having a minor case of folliculitis, if that's the case, plucking that hair n then using antibiotic ointment should work.... |

I usually break out in this area when I've waxed or threaded my upper lip |

Waxing or shaving would be my guess. Unless you are eating something greasy that clogs your pores. Maybe using a new toothpaste? |

None of those, actually. Which makes this even more mysterious
I dont eat greasy food...I avoid fried food as much as possible... |

Have you tried adding salicylic acid to help with clogged pores? Even Stridex wipes (the non alcohol version) might help. |

That has definitely helped me when I had the same problem. Exfoliation is key in any kind of folliculitis. |
