In the name of ethical reviews and the integrity of the entire forum, I encourage posters to post any skincare/cosmetics affiliations they have, in response to this thread.
Affiliations defined as:
- Have you received any products for free or at a discount in exchange for discussing them in this forum or elsewhere online?
- Have you appeared in or been involved with, any advertising or promotions for any sellers or distributors of any products or devices?
- Are you or have you communicated with any sellers, distributors, researchers, etc. regarding the discussions on this forum?
Thank you. BFG |

I will go first.
I have not and do not have any affiliations with any product/gadget sellers.
I have communicated with researchers regarding their own skincare research and products:
- specifically Drs. Fernandes and Setterfield regarding needling. I have relayed info I received them here. I think I may have told them about this forum, but I honestly do not remember, would have to search through old email to be sure, but have no conflict of interest.
In the past, I may have communicated with other researchers, but these are two that I remember.

It should be obvious, but I guess it should also be mentioned, that receiving compensation for discussing products or gadget is also an affiliation.

No affiliation, no discount, no freebies, no research, and no compensation of any kind for me. Never discussed forum stuff with any vendor.
Kinda wish I did have a way to augment my habit, though. Although I would disclose it if I did. I can't see a reason to hide something like that. As long as everybody's honest about it (for example "I really like this product but I do receive compensation for helping sell it"), what's the big deal? |

Yubs,
Did you see my post about my own affiliations? It was a post or two above yours.
I "augment" my skincare habits by doing my own research, here and elsewhere. More often, it's case of saving money than spending it.

Thank you for making my point for me, in a different way.....disclosure here is random and not common.

We were apparently typing at the same time. Just now saw it. I edited my post appropriately. |

I have no affiliations. No discounts. No freebies. No discussions with any vendors. It's probably a good thing I don't have any those. I like so few products I'd never make any money.
I have bought all my products with my own money and any review I give is based on my personal experience or results. I think I covered everything. |

It's easy to spot the shills. They usually have very few posts. |

I'm not sure I agree with that. I think they sometimes have many posts.
I have no affiliation to any skin care product or company, BUT I love the Lifeline products and if they asked me to write a review, I would. But please notice, I am not on this forum pushing the stuff. Just because I love something doesn't mean that anyone else is going to like it, and frankly I don't care if I am the only person in the universe that uses it, I don't need group support. Every few months or so I update my product review just so others know that I am still using the product and still around to answer questions, but that's about it. |

Thank you, BFG!!! Marvelous idea.
i know when i've come across a *voluntary* disclaimer in someone's post, it's so absolutely refreshing...it eludes a certain caring, sensitivity, and authenticity for the public readers.
I wonder if your questions ^^ could be posted as a *sticky* or as an addendum in a *sticky* in:
1) the Skincare and Makeup Forum (Please Justify Your Recommendations)
2) Product Reviews Forum (Guide Toward Better Product Reviews)
3) Skincare Tools & Do-It-Yourself Skincare (the DIY Skincare-Recipe Index, Dermarolling, Facial Exercise etc.)
for all intents & purposes, as a reminder that the disclosure they choose to include
in their post (the *out of the closet* ), although not mandatory,
is certainly appreciated. |

Great idea BFG! It should even be a "sticky"..
It's no secret to many on the forum that I've happily used and shared my experience with Lightstim LED's for just about 6 years now.
In all I personally bought and paid full price for 8 LS devices. Five for my personal use and three I gave to family members as gifts.
Several years ago I contacted Steve at LS, told him that I was a very happy user of his LED, and I told him that I was a member of a skincare forum, and asked him if he would consider a "forum discount", for members who wanted to try his product. I also asked him about deeper discounts for folks (including me), who were interested in multiple devices. He said yes, and the "10% EDS Forum Discount" was born. (I believe it's still ongoing, but since it is also sold on QVC, that is a better price.)
I made Steve aware of the AALS thread, and encouraged him to check it out if he was interested in honest reviews and queries, from people interested in his products. He was happy to oblige, and I posted several emails from him in that thread.
And now after that long winded intro, I'll get to the heart of the matter...
In February 2013 Steve emailed me to ask if I'd be interested in testing a new model that they were planning to introduce on QVC (the mini.) He knew that I was a long term user, and was very happy with my positive results from his products. I told him; "I'll be very happy to test/use it, but good or bad, I'll be sharing my honest review at EDS." Steve said, "That's all I ask, and you'll receive it in a day or two.)

The entire post/review is near the middle of the page and dated April 12th 2013;

That's it for me.. I'm not affiliated with any vendor of skincare products or devices, I do NOT sell DIY anything, and if I received anything for "free", y'all will be the 1st to know it... (As evidenced in my post above!) |

Peace & Hugs to all.♥ |

Wow, thank you all for the input and suggestions for making the info as a sticky, I think that's a great idea, hope Havana or other moderators agree.
I agree with panda - the shills are not always easy to spot here. We have no idea if any longer term posters have developed affiliations along the way.
Of course this is voluntary, so if frequent posters don't want to disclose, that doesn't necessarily mean anything or maybe it does? I know I am now giving more credibility to the postings of those who have disclosed.

I have been an active member of EDS for 9 years and counting... can't even believe it. It is the first place I come to when I'm looking for honest, unbiased info on skincare, makeup, etc.
A couple of years ago, my good friend asked if I wanted to occasionally write reviews for a blog she had started and I more than happily obliged as I LOVE skincare, makeup, devices, etc... I have NEVER come on here to rave about any of the products or to try to shill them. Nope. If I were to add to anyone's review here who happened to have used a product that I reviewed I'd absolutely preface it with "I received this for free to review" and then talk about it."
I have posted to tell you all of contests and giveaways that the site is having... for example a few months ago they were giving away a Clarisonic Mia and I just wanted to let everyone know. My post was removed though - so if I violated something I truly wasn't aware of it.
I'm about to post a review about Derma-E's Hydrating Mist - and I bought that on my own from VitaCost! So, I can 100% honestly say that I would never disrupt the integrity of this forum without first acknowledging whether or not I received a product for free. I respect you ALL too much to ever do that.

I mostly diy, so I'm pretty much exempt from all this.
I don't receive discounts from any company besides the same rewards points that every other customer gets. I don't have any skincare related blogs, so I don't get freebies. Etc. |

I use Environ, Epionce, Safetox, ReAura, and the BioWave microcurrent....no relationships with any of the vendors, and I have receipts for every single product (and repeat purchases) over the years.
I have never corresponded with anyone at Environ or Epionce. I did previously ask questions for the group of Safetox users at EDS, but my Safetox contact is gone now and I don't know anyone there anymore.
I do recommend Zed for ReAura purchases, but have had no communications with him beyond my great purchase experience. The ReAura, Aftercare Cream, and Gel have all been purchased with receipts and emails to back that up.
The BioWave was purchased from Hong Kong via ebay. |

No. I don't have any affiliations with any company, but I wish I did with the ones I have interest in.
I do praise very hard on things that work for me, but I like to share my skin condition, the environment that I live it to help others decide if they want to try it also. |

Right, like if your user name is Clarisonic_Founder I would assume you have something to do with Clarisonic!
I am a licensed Esthetician and work in a med-spa. I work with NeoCutis, Clarisonic, Lelexo, Latisse, GloMineral Makeup, Theraderm, SkinPen, Hydrafacials, Laser Hair Removal, and IPL machines.
I have worked with Dermalogica, Bumble and Bumble, Jane Iredale, Dermapen and Aveda.
I know about all these lines because I have worked or work with them. Some I love, others not so much.
I do get free samples but if I want to use something regularly, I have to buy them at cost. |

I use the Tria Rejuvenating laser, Pico toner, blue light for acne (my husband made this for me), Safetox, a couple of Environ products, and Retin A. I have no affiliations with any of these companies (or any others for that matter) although sometimes I wish I did - this is a very expensive obsession! |

I can answer No to all of these as well, even though a few have questioned me since I discuss CPs quite a bit on EDS. But no affiliations or freebies - unlike lucky Kassy! (wistful sigh) |

If my spidey sense starts up I listen to it.
I ignore feedback that smells fishy.
As a general stance I occupy a space of open and receptive neutrality. What I mean is.. I believe that being in a mode of mistrust is unhealthy psychologically, emotionally, and spiritually.
I wont concede my sense of the majority of people being good people, to those few corrupters. |
