I made cold cream with olive oil but wanted to see if I could make a more Pond's like version. And on the internet I found, yesss, a 1947 recipe of Pond's. Instead of pure mineral oil I used a mineral baby oil with the fragrance already incorporated.
The classic recipe goes as follows (in weight and percentages - if you go to an online formulating tool, it's easy to find the right amounts for the batch size you want to make)
beeswax 22%
mineral oil 50.8%
distilled water 26.0%
borax 0.8%
perfume 0.4%
If you use baby oil, just add the amount reserved for perfume to the amount of oil.
Heat the wax and oil. In another bowl, heat water and borax. When the wax has dissolved and the liquid is clear, add in the hot water/borax mixture and stir. Keep stirring until you get a 'trace', that is, the liquid starts to thicken. Stir in the perfume if you use any, this is also a good moment to add any essential oils.
Pour in sterilized containers. |
