I have one of these on my leg. I'm not sure what it is though. I've had it for as long as I remember, but it could have been from a fall when I was a kid.

I was wondering if there were any products that could help fade this? Thanks.

I'd try 100% pure aloe vera gel. It has worked for me. But it took a long time. Someone may be able to give you a better suggestion.

I can't guarantee anything if what you have is a birthmark (if it's one of those coffee-stain type, those are actually a very benign type of blood tumor that almost everyone has at least one of, rather than a hyperpigmentation problem), but if it's a scar or pigmentation issue, Glyquin XM is actually wonderful. I'm pale and I scar easily if I get cut, and I got a prescription once for it a while back that has become a staple in my bathroom cabinet.

I was delighted when I found that you can get in on EDS without a prescription. I'm pretty sure the formula's the same... (I hope.) But I'd highly highly recommend it. Don't expect overnight results, but if you use it as directed consistently with dedication, scars will completely fade over time. Just a week will even make a marked difference.

Rusalka,

Would this product work for acne scars as well?

If your acne scars are of the hyperpigmentation variety, I'd wager to say it would probably work. I've got very few qualms about using it on the face, though. The product says to "avoid the eyes" which implies that it is safe for the face (I tried it on a super small patch of slightly darker sun damage and didn't have any reaction.) I don't know how some of those chemicals will ultimately react on sensitive skin, and hopefully when I get further into medical school (I start in August) I'll be more of a help on this front. Smile But I for certain wouldn't apply it anywhere that there's broken skin, or even an active bump or pimple. And I'd definitely patch-test it on your hand or underneath your chin to see if your skin reacts. You'll find that a very tiny film suffices, and it doesn't have any drying or oily effects that I've noticed.

There's also a product called Nicomide that I've been trying out for dark pigmentation that I think is geared towards sun-damage, but I'm not sure. It's supposed to fade dark marks on the face generally speaking, but I'm not sure it's doing anything at all and I've been using it for about 2 or 3 weeks.

I'd give the Glyquin a shot, just make double sure that your skin won't react to the hydroquinone and that you're working with smooth areas of skin that aren't irritated to begin with. Smile I think the new formula that's listed on the site says that it has vitamins E,C, etc. added to it, which may definitely help the tolerance factor. My skin's pretty sensitive, and it hasn't bothered me, but being overly cautious is best!!

I also forgot to emphasize after going back and looking at the ingredients that this product includes glycolic acid in it's base. I'd really veer away from putting anything but a simple spf moisturizer over the spots that you use it on (and use it very, very locally just where you need it) since it is pretty heavy duty stuff and lots of people are using AHA and glycolic moisturizers in this forum which would be an awful awful idea when applied over this stuff. I'll shut up now. Very Happy

I don't mean to be all scary, because it is amazing and it's the only scar lightener in my personal experience that actually works well.

Thanks for your reply, -rusalka-. BTW, how does the Glyquin compare to Obagi Clear? I tried that a while ago and it didn't really do much. Thanks again.

Honestly, I couldn't tell ya. The Obagi's designed to be used as part of a regimen, and the Glyquin is a stand-alone product. My mother uses Obagi, and I've only used their sunscreen, so I couldn't tell you what I think about just that one product. Especially since it does presumably build upon the effectiveness of the rest of the products in that line. I couldn't form an opinion beyond that, though, so I'm sorry!!
