Hi Everybody,
Here is a tip I think some of you may really find helpful.
I’ve had lower back pain off and on for some time now (mild arthritis... compliments of bodybuilding) I was doing some research and found that ginger works wonders for arthritis and other problems as well. Kills inflammation bigtime. Please take a little time and read the link below. Now here is something that I think most don’t know... It also can clear rosacea. It doesn’t mention it on the link but a friend of mine said she has managed to clear herself of rosacea by drinking Ginger root tea. I looked up on the net to see if anyone else had such a claim and sure enough there are several reviews about ginger root doing just that! I don’t suffer from rosacea but many of my clients do and it can interfere with their training.
Here is how I make my ginger tea. I don’t care for any of the ginger teas purchased at the store (not my favorite flavor and don’t want to add sugar) so I make my own... I buy a tea made by GOOD EARTH called ‘Original SWEET & SPICY’ It’s made with cinnamon and other spices and is naturally sweet; so much so that they have to say on the box “no sugar added’ or you wouldn’t believe it.
I buy fresh ginger root, grate about ½ inch, put it in a little mesh-screen holder for loose tea, and drop it into the cup of sweet/spicy tea. I LOVE IT! I drink it 3 times a day (no caffeine) It has done wonders for my back pain.
Ginger Link: Great Info.

Don't know why the link above is not working...
Just go to http://www.whfoods.com
Search under spices and click on Ginger. Also take a look at Cinnamon...you'll see why you might want to put these two together. |

Ginger is one of my can't-do-without spices. That it is so good for you is the icing on the gingerbread! LOL |

I use fresh ginger. Our asian markets where I live sell beautiful ginger and I use it for tea and in cooking. They always talk about the healing properties - I believe... |

Ginger is amazing. I often drink ginger water that I make myself. Thanks for the reminder, I had slacked off drinking it the last week and my shoulder/neck pain that lingers from an old infection has been kicking up (probably due to the cold weather). I need to get back on it. |

ginger is one of those good for almost any problem things...from cancer prevention, to killing infections, helping reduce pain, and quelling nausea and stomach issues.
i do find ginger to be a bit drying, meaning it will actually make you a bit thirsty. But I put up with it. |

I wish I liked ginger more. I fully understand the health benefits of it but it's something I have a hard time getting down. |

maybe combine it with something else? You can throw it into a smoothie or juice blend, if you make those. |

Basically, all the spices and flavorings used in Indian cooking are extremely beneficial. I am of Indian descent, and one thing I really need to do is pick up more of my mom's cooking secrets. I never pay much attention when i'm with her (and I havent been able to spend much time with her lately even) because she does it so well, I just figure it's better if she does the cooking and I wander off and start doing something else |

Here's a tip: turmeric's power is boosted by black pepper, so combine these two together in cooking. Tastes great when stirred into eggs. |

Thanks for the info on ginger. I also did some body building and now I do a lot of the BeachBody workouts. My older ankles and knees feel it more than they used to, so I'm excited to try that.
Also, my body skin is just awful. If you ever get time, I would love to get your input on getting some elasticity back there |

Here's another bit on ginger by Dr Weil along the same lines as Deb's post:

Are You Using Ginger For Its Heath Benefits?
If minor aches and pains are an issue for you, try ginger, a natural anti-inflammatory agent that is useful for relieving symptoms associated with arthritis, bursitis, motion sickness, nausea and more. Ginger is commonly available in forms ranging from whole fresh root, crystallized ginger and honey-based ginger syrups to capsules containing powdered extracts. Look for products made with only 100% pure ginger. For inflammatory conditions, take one or two grams of powdered ginger a day; for nausea and prevention of motion sickness, take 1,000 mg as a preventive and 500 mg every four hours as needed. (You might also try eating eat two pieces of crystallized ginger, taking a spoonful of ginger syrup or sipping ginger tea.)
Since high doses may cause a burning sensation in the stomach, take ginger with food. Ginger may also act as a blood thinner, so curbing daily use at least two weeks before surgery is advisable. If you are pregnant, use ginger to address morning sickness with some caution - I would not recommend using more 1,000 to 1,500 mg per day taken in two to four divided doses, particularly during the early stages of pregnancy.

Your hot drink with fresh grated ginger and lemon sounds really refreshing, SkinCareJunkie. I'll have to give that a try.
bellabambiiina, I tried your suggestion of adding turmeric and black pepper to scrambled eggs. It was quite tasty! |

I drink ginger tea and throw a piece of ginger in the vitamix for smoothies approx 3 times a week, always have some in the fridge. I wish I would notice some positive effects on my rosacea! I like it for immune boost. |

I use ginger for stir fry sauces and whatnot. Love it! It's too much trouble to process it every time I need it, so every now and then I'll just make a paste up. (Peel a few roots and throw them in the food processor with olive oil. Freeze. Spoon out as needed.)
I never really got into using the fresh stuff for tea. I'll use dried ginger and peppermint for tea, but I suck at flavoring the fresh root. |
