Hi all,
Hoping someone can help me with this. Im a 27yr old male with terrible skin from years of clogged pores and blackheads with me extracting them causing scars.
Ive tried everything under the sun since my early teens to clear the blackheads and clogged pores but i think ive made matters worse using too many prodcuts from clay masks to salicylic/glycolic peels and home microdermabrasion.
I started using retin-A earlier this year, was using it for around 2 months, since using this which ive stopped now ive gained laugh lines and when i laugh they deepen into deep ridges for a minute or so afterwards.
Ive no idea as to what to try next. Should i just leave my skin alone in the hope it will repair itself or can anyone recommend me anything to try to lessen the laugh lines and wrinkly skin.
Many thanks |

When I used a gel based Retin A I had the same problem. It improved when I switched to a cream based product with sunscreen added to the product. And it takes a certain gentleness to introduce Retin A: Start with lowest dose every 4 days, when flaking stops, every 3 days, 2 days, then move up in strength. It can take a year to reach .05. Don't hurry, you are re-educating your skin. My first doctor did not tell me how to use the product and how to increase the dose gradually. ALWAYS start with the lowest dose and apply ONLY once a day. Only increase the strength of dosage when your body is adjusted to it. More is not better. I hope this is of help. |

Maybe your skin got very dry with the retin A and it makes your lines look worse.
Try a gentle cleanser, a good moisturizer and a sunscreen for your skin type and wait a little before seeking into other treatments. Give your skin a rest for anything harsh.
By the way I could not get over the dryness with retin A, it made me look older. But Tazorac does better for me.
With any vit A products you should start slowly and increase frequency as your skin tolerates it. But wait for your skin to get better before you start again.
One important think is never to apply vit A products within 15 minutes after cleaning your face. It makes your skin more sensitive to it if you don't wait the 15 minutes or more. |
