Howdy!
Is it ok to use Zinc oxide cream or those pure physical sunscreen at night?
I am saying this because I feel if my face doesn't have oil (which will accumulate at night), the lesser clogged pores I'll have.
I can't seem to make my face oil-free through the night, even if I use oil.
well, except for the nose, I usually rub jojoba oil there, and before bed, i'll wash the oil residue. the nose will be oil free till next morning.
BUT! I can't do this on whole face, as my face feels dry (take note I only use water to wash before bed)
So, my idea is using physical sunscreen which is very matte on my face at night, will it do good or bad??
or is there better idea to keep the face oil free??
PS: I'll wash it properly in the morning (makeup remover to remove it) |

I don't really understand. If you want your face to be oil free at night, why would you put anything at all on it? Are you using the sunscreen to absorb oil?
If you're saying you want moisture without oil, why not try an oil-free moisturizer? |

Some physicals can be drying so in a way it could keep excess oil (which for some is produced at night with nothing on their skin) under control. I understand the OP's reasoning behind it but surely there must be a better way to keep oil production under control? Perhaps some other board members will have more suggestions to help you but if it works for you then go for it. We know that physical minerals lay on top of the skin so I can't imagine them doing anything negative during the night. |

choco, why not just use a zinc sulfate toner at night like this one and save your SS for daytime. Zinc oxide doesnt penetrate the skin but zinc sulfate does:
Earth Science Clarifying Herbal Astringent:
Water, Hamamelis Virginiana (Witch Hazel) Extract, Glycerin, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Extract, Cucumis Sativus (Cucumber) Fruit Extract, Equisetum Arvense (Horsetail) Leaf Extract, Macrocytis Pyrifera (Kelp) Extract, Citrus Grandis (Grapefruit) Seed Extract, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract, Salvia Officinalis (Sage) Leaf Extract, Bixa Orellana (Annatto) Extract, Ascorbic Acid, Allantoin, Panthenol, Apple Cider Vinegar, Polysorbate 20, Mentha Piperita (Peppermint) Extract, Sodium PCA, Camphor, Cellulose Gum, Sulfur, Sodium Hyaluronate, Sorbic Acid, Zinc Sulfate, Phenoxyethanol, Fragrance

YES, I mean I want to keep the oil produced at night under control. I sleep on air-cond room.
No matter what I put on my skin, or nothing at all, my skin will always oil up.
that's why I'm thinking since I use physical sunscreen on AM, my face NEVER oil up AT ALL. I mean, really, I don't have oily skin to begin with though.

thanks for your product recommendation!
but, what I'm trying to do is to keep the oil sucked up by the zinc oxide cream (or physical sunscreen).
or is there better idea? I'm thinking using loose powder (like those baby powder or something?) but I'm scared of clogged pores... |

It's an interesting idea. If oil control is your only concern, you could always just make a special absorbent powder to go over your nighttime skincare. It doesn't have to be daytime make up quality like a fancy optical blur setting powder. Just something with clays, rice powder, dry plant extracts, etc. I guess you could always just live with the fact that your face will be a little shiny in the mornings. But that's a cop out answer.
I mean...A good quality zinc oxide sunscreen is usually expensive and I know I personally use mine up quickly enough without an additional night application! |

Rice powder, interesting.
I do consider using starch powder but I'm worried of yeast/fungal growth. I'm concerned how the interaction between X + Y = yeast and such.
The reason I want to keep my face oil free is because, I notice that since I start using pure physical sunscreen, the formation of clogged has subsided (and of course Finacea usage pumps it up since it reduces oil production). That's why I get the idea "the less oil on my face, the longer the bumps will form".
I don't have oily skin actually, perhaps just normal type cheek and slightly oily t-zone. strange, but my t-zone area is the clearest, only have 1-2 during that time of months, not that much blackheads there too. Yet, my lower cheeks are the problematic area. |

I would apply it over the Finacea, but please list your complete regimen before we can comment.
Also, MoM is a white pasty liquid and not cosmetically elegant at all, which is why I would suggest a clear toner instead really. |

Doesn't Queen Helene also make a Mint Julep mask? I used to use that. It absorbs oil, if I remember correctly, and I don't think it was too harsh or drying. It's been years so I can't be sure but I think I would remember anything negative... |
