I have been wondering about the "mid cheek groove" of late. My Mother has a very pronounced mid cheek volume loss at the age of 60 much like the after image in this picture: http://www.allicanbe.com.au/enhancing-the-mid-face-with-hyaluronic-acid/
It is probably the worst case of this I personally have seen however my Mother has had some very unique challenges with illness in her life and unfortunately has been a heavy smoker since she was 11 years old (shocking I know).
Her own mother died very young so I don't know if it is hereditiory (certainly they both had an early menopause) but as well as wanting to help my Mum I must admit it worries me for the future also.
On this page a much younger man is told that his condition is due to "shrinkage of the underlying bone" (http://www.realself.com/question/malar-bags-else) and fillers are recommended.
This also shows a similer issue:

I am unsure if my Mum would try fillers or not but I wondered about facial exercise? As bone shrinkage is mentioned would exercises that rebuild the bone be useful. I think that the Yamuna "Save your face" mentions building the bone which seems to be an option.
I am 36 and see a faint groove in my mid cheek which may have been there for years but I am thinking of the future for myself and how I can help my Mum now. Any one here have any thoughts on this, advice or experiance to share?
Note: I have really tried to get my Mum to give up smoking but I really doubt she ever will and I have told her that anything she does will not work so well, it at all if she continues to smoke in fact I am sure I heard that facelifts can fail if you start smoking again after surgery. |
