Hello everyone.....this is my first post here as I have spent the last week or so browsing the threads from previous posts. Fascinating stuff and such a mine of info!
After careful thought I have decided to add topical vitamin C to my skincare which at present really only involves washing and SPF moisturizing daily, [Philosophy products]. Which to choose????? There are so many vitamin C serums etc available, and I think all those offered through EDS are stabilized [?]
I would like to stick to Philosophy products I like their range as but their Vitamin C is supplied as a powder which has to be mixed daily with moisturizer to maintain stability, and I would prefer something easier[ am I lazy or what?]
Anyone here care to share their knowledge/experience of topical vit C products? Any advice on brands, strengths etc would be GREATLY apreciated. Thanks in advance.
I have dry, moderately senstive skin, am 43 and starting to look a bit frayed around the edges and I think something with viatamin C is the way to go for me as I want to keep my routine as simple as poss. |

Hi and welcome to the forum.
I use cellularskinrx vit c. I love it it is very stable. It feels oily when you put it on but soaks in within a few minutes. It is quite runny and you only need a couple of drops. A little goes a long way. Oh yes it is cheap as well.
I know though that not everyone on here likes the texture of it and I am sure they will soon give you their preferences and reasons why they prefer other products. It is a bit of a lottery finding the best products to suit your skin type and pocket. There are so many of us on this site and we all love different things.
I am sure it will all be as clear as mud to you very soon. |

I think that given that you have sensitive skin you should start off with a lower concentration. Also, seeing as you have dry skin, you might prefer a serum that does have more "slip" and is not as watery as Cellex-C or Skinceuticals. I would suggest Vivier 10% serum. CSRx is also very good and has even more slip than Vivier and a concentration of about 12% I think.
Having said that, Skinceuticals makes a C+E serum which has the added benefit of vitamin E. I find that this one is not as watery as the other SC serums and would be a very good choice and added protection.
Mind you, the texture and choice of texture given skin type is just my personal opinion. I don't like the CSRx serum (actually, I like the serum, but not the texture rather) because it has too much "slip" for my liking. There are some people with dry skin that still prefer to use the Cellex-C serums even if, to me, they feel more drying. |

Hi and welcome andrevi . I actually have the Philosophy vit c powder that you mention and it is actually very easy to use. I just sprinkle half a scoop over some Hope In A Jar cream that I had dolloped out onto my hand (well, that's what I used to do until I shamelessy switched over to the Dr H range!), twirl and voila! It really is very simple. And you can use it with any moisturiser you want. Anyway, it looks as though you want to try out a vit c serum, so I'm gonna shut up and let you get on with reading the proper replies |

Thanks for the replies re:vitamin c products. It seems from your posts that everyone reacts differently and so the way to go would be trial and error, but being sensible and starting out at the lower concentrations. Positive results are always welcome, but the experimenting can be enjoyable too!
I noticed last night that Philosophy have discontinued the moisturizer/SPF product I use [When Hope Is Not Enough], so I'll be on the look out for a suitable replacement. Do those of you living in the UK bother using a sunscreen during our winter? |

Andrevi, I just rely on the SPF in my BE. And anyway, sun? what sun?! |

I tried the philosophy vit C powder. I used it for probably 6 months, and I never noticed the results everybody raved about. I switched to skinceuticals vit c, I had amazing results in just a few weeks.
I really don't think that philosophy's vit c power penetrates the skin as well as other types of C. |

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I was encouraged to hear of MaryR's results with Skinceuticals as this was the brand I had more or less decided to try based on ingredients, stability and of course price! I can't believe the vast differences in price on EDS and elsewhere. I priced the Cellex-C in a couple of stores in London and it is so expensive compared to buying online. Anyway, I'll let you know my results when I start using it. |

... as regards sun screen, I tend to rely on BE in the winter as well, but in the summer it's factor 30+. We don't get much in the way of sun down here, but it is always bright and with a big hole in the ozone over the north pole I don't see the sense in taking care of my skin just to get covered in cancerous melanomas cause I'm too lazy to cover up and not enough people care about emissions.
Skinceuticals is a great c serum btw
Liz
PS welcome |
