Hello, I know the topic of Vit C has been discussed at length on the forum. But I never really saw a definitive response to the topic of vitamin C and elastin. I love vit C and the benefits I have seen but have recently read quite a few studies that indicate while collagen in increased elastin is decreased.
I read a study in : Subcellular Biochemistry: Biochemistry and Biochemical Cell Biology
And I have also found various studies that are posted online..
Now I know with vitamins, food etc everyone always has all sorts of opinions.
What is the general consensus on this subject and continuing the topical use of Vit C? |

I'm not giving up my C.
I'm not sure the articles in the Subcellular Biochemistry: Biochemistry and Biochemical Cell Biology rise to the level of a peer-reviewed clinical study? And I would add that there are reams of data (thanks to the late Dr. Pinnell) showing that ascorbic acid has a great record for clinical use. You only have to do a search on pubmed.
I do recall someone asking Dr. Todorov on his forum on smartskincare.com about collagen vs. elastin in regards to C but I don't recall him being overly concerned. You could do a search over there to see his reply. |
