This is a review of the MDSolarSciences
Mineral Crème Broad Spectrum SPF 50 UVA-UVB Sunscreen ($36 CAD)

Pros:
Contains high amount of Zinc Oxide: 17%
Hight SPF
Goes on smooth as it contains silicones
Non-greasy (good for oily skin)
It is formulated WITHOUT:
- Parabens
- Sulfates
- Phthalates
According to MDSolarSciences, "All of our sunscreen products are rated among the top broad spectrum sunscreens by the Environmental Working Group (ewg.org) and carry the Skin Cancer Foundation Seal of Approval."
Cons:
The tube is tiny! (48 g)
Expensive
It contains silicones (hence, it leaves a film on your skin if you apply too much)
Major white cast! There are sunblocks that contain even higher amount of Zinc Oxide & leave less white cast than this one.
Somewhat chalky

-Titanium Dioxide 1.5%: Sunscreen.
-Zinc Oxide 17%: Sunscreen.
-ProVention-R™ Complex (Green Tea Extract, Cranberry Fruit Extract, and Pomegranate Extract): A skin-protecting antioxident blend safe for acne and rosacea-prone skin.
-Vitamin C: Helps brighten and repair signs of photo aging.
Dimethicone, Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Glyceryl Isostearate, Polyhydroxystearic Acid, Silica, Butyloctyl Salicylate, Polysilicone-15, Dimethicone/Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Iron Oxides, PEG/PPG-18/18 Dimethicone, Triethoxycaprylylsilane, Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate, Camellia Sinensis (GreenTea) Extract, Vaccinium Macrocarpon (Cranbery) Fruit Extract, Punica Granatum (Pomegranate) Extract.
Looks good with the extra antioxidents (vitamin C and green tea). Too bad the texture is chalky and has a white cast. |

| If it is available in stores, I suggest you try it. Because the ingredients are not bad. Also, it depends if you skin is naturally white, and what you use under the sunscreen. |

| can we just buy zinc oxide in bulk and make our own powder sunscreen? Its pretty cheap ...any one has any DIY recipes to share please ? |

Yes, you can buy zinc powder from an DIY supplier and make your own. I believe zinc on its own will look too white/chalky especially if you are not naturally pale. You might want to add something else to zinc. Iron oxides for colour maybe.

How can you tell the SPF of the finished product when you dyi sunscreens?
Good idea, RussianSS. 17% ZO sounds like it will leave a white cast but then, it might suprise me.
