Not sure where to put this question, but has anyone mastered the art of applying liquid foundation with a brush? I always hear that it is the most recommended way to apply it, but I can't figure how to do it. I look like some crazed artist attacked my face! I think I have a bad relationship to foundation anyway. I've tried the minerals, tints, power, liquid, gel. It NEVER looks natural
I would love to hear application success stories. My skin is oily, but I use products that sometimes makes it flake.
Thanks for your help. Joani |

You know, I have had the same problem. I REALLY wanted to love my Trish McEvoy foundation brush, but it never happened. I always seemed to put on too much foundation or it ended up streaky. I really tried, I even had the Trish sales rep show me and I could never get the hang of it. I do much better by just using my fingers. I gave up and gave my beautiful brush away.

You'll for sure lose foundation if you use a foundation brush that isn't synthetic..as you can probably figure, natural hair will just absorb the product. It also has to be very well-cut and precision-layered. I'm all for a good quality foundation brush but still trust my fingers to be the best tool for a nice foundation app. - and I wouldn't be caught dead applying with a sponge

Does a sponge just suck up too much foundation? I remember when everyone said that using a sponge was the way to go, although it does seem a bit gross The brush I used was synthetic, but I think you gals are right, fingers seem to be the best tool. I'd love to hear from someone who has had success with a brush. Joani |

this is a good question.
i have always used fingers, but i don't often wear foundation anyway. when i bought my latest one, the sales lady advised me to use clean fingers as brushes and sponges waste too much of the product and fingers give a better result. so i guess fingers are good
joani.sp- i also have oily skin and have found it hard to get a good foundation for it, although i don't get many blemishes so i don't need it everyday. what do you use? i have got a clinique gentle light makeup at the moment which is ok. have never tried powder but many on these forums advocate the use of mineral makeup etc.
take care

Hi Maddy, I've used them all! I sometimes use Traceless from Perscriptives. I've used Clinique also and Chanel, Mac, Stila... I know everyone loves the mineral foundations, but I can't seem to get them to look natural. They just look all caked on.
I'd love some application tips from any of you who have had luck with these products. I have some JI loose powder, compact powder, that water in a can and I can't get an even, natural look.
I'm hoping my skin will settle down enough so I won't have to wear foundation either Thanks, Joani |

I also find the Trish McEvoy brush very difficult to manage with foundation, but I do use it for cream blush (along with my fingers!)
However, I bought the Giorgio Armani natural hair brush to use with my GA Luminous Silk Foundation, and find that it works very well. When I used my fingers, I used twice as much foundation, and it looked much heavier than it does with the brush applicaton.
With this brush, I use less product & get a superior, flawless finish -- although it takes a bit longer than with fingers. alexis |

I have the MAC foundation brush and I love it! I think it's a much better way of applying foundation and the result is really natural and there are no streaks. You can probably achieve the same result using fingers or the brush but I prefer the brush myself. I have also discovered brushes for cream blushes (also have a MAC for this) and I'm not going back to fingers ever again!
