I have noticed in the past month only that I have these new wrinkles on the right side of my mouth where my smile line is. I've always had a wrinkle on the left side and it looks about the same but I actually didn't have one on the right side...
I've also noticed some small wrinkles on my forehead cropping up as well which I didn't have either. I noticed these wrinkles around the same time about a week or so after using Philosophy Purity cleanser and feel maybe I can attribute it to this product. Moisturizing doesn't seem to be helping. :-/
I'm not sure if this is some recent change due to product or my environment or something of the sort or if these slight wrinkles had been slowly forming over the past year or so and I just hadn't really noticed... I'm 27 yrs old btw.
Any ideas what I could do for my skin? Should I just use cleanser and moisturizer only or do I bring out some big guns? I really am not too educated on skin care and can't figure out what to do. I have sensitive skin that reacts to a lot of products. Please help me and if you can put in your two cents about these wrinkles...any way I can tell whether they are from a product or just natural aging?? How long would it take if a product damaged skin to create wrinkles for them to get better? It has been 3-4 weeks since I stopped using the Philosophy cleanser. |

Using actives, to me, is like pumping iron. You do it when you're out of shape but otherwise basically healthy. If you've gotten a bad reaction to a product, that's like getting a slight injury at the gym, like a pulled muscle. I'd be inined to go easy until things improve a bit.
This thread is about people's bad reactions to retin a but I think it applies to anyone who has a compromised skin barrier. I like skindeep77's routine on p. 2 of the thread with one addition. I think a very watery and thin hyaluronic acid serum or a tiny bit of glycerin mixed with water under moisturizer will help with penetration issues.

Lotion masks from the book Japanese Skincare Revolution may also be a help, say oatmeal milk and honey, which is very healing and hydrating. There are a lot of inexpensive products now which make lotion masks easy to do, including cotton with precut holes for nose and eyes. Sheet masks already infused with product might also help you.

I see you have also posted here about closed comedones: http://www.essentialdayspa.com/forum/viewthread.php?tid=52563&highlight=
I would guess you are using the wrong type of cleanser for your skin for sure if its giving you these kind of reactions.
For sure things I would be doing at 27 years would be using a good Vit C serum and sunscreen non-stop at the basics. 4 weeks isn't a long time to see major results (since you stopped using the cleanser) but you may instead want to opt for an oil type cleanser as these will help clean your skin without drying it out yet it will moisturise it also. |

Hi TheresaMary, my closed comedones are actually something I've had for 4 years now. I'm not sure why I have them but I have tried many cleansers and topical products. The cleanser I had posted about that was creating wrinkles and dehydrated looking skin was the Philosophy cleanser which I only used for one week and it caused my skin fine line wrinkling. I stopped that cleanser over a month ago and my skin seems to be getting back on track.
Actually, I have a cleanser that seemed to help a little bit with my skin texture and health of my skin but it's been discontinued. It's the Mary Kay Deep Formula 3 Cleanser. I often wonder what ingredient in this product could be helpful toward my skin. It helped make the closed comedones and any new acne go down, but the issue for me is that my closed comedones are so stubborn that in the morning they seemed flattened down a lot but as the day goes on they would come poking out more giving my skin this rough looking texture. At least this cleanser helped calm my skin a lot and my skin just seemed to like it a lot, even though it wasn't a miracle worker for the closed comedones. It even helped a lot with wrinkles and keeping skin looking hydrated because it was the only product I could use overnight for a long time since my skin was sensitive for a while. I haven't been able to find a cleanser to compare to this one.
But anyway, I've been struggling with these super tiny closed comedones all over my face for years, I have no idea what caused them and why they will not go away. They flatten themselves at times and at times they really come out. They almost remind me of super tiny milia because they have been in the same place for years. My skin overall has this bumpy looking texture because of these tiny bumps.
I'm hoping someone can give me advice on these bumps.
This is what my skin looks like. This person who posted this picture received responses that it looks like closed comedones: http://i.imgur.com/68DN6WZ.jpg |
