So,
I just ordered some samples from an online shop called Medicine Mama's Apothecary,
I bought them after hearing good things about the specific brand and thought I'd keep 2 samples (there sample pack comes with 6+) and put the rest in as stocking stuffers.
2 of the main ingredients though were olive oil and beeswax,
Now I'm acne prone so I thought "hey this is a bad idea" and then I went "but I still have to try it."
And if youre wondering why,
thats just what I do...haha
Anyways,
I tried it last night after I applied some serum and when I woke up and went to the bathroom to cleanse- I looked great.
Skin looked plump, cheeks flushed a bit, looked smooth and my red marks and acne where decreased.
I was honestly expecting to wake up with zits, and I got quite a surprise.
So this morning I did the same thing- cleanse, serum, and the sample (I'd say this is like a balm consistency btw).
Nothing really happend,
I have a pimple on my chin but I always have em..and I just put more on now a bit ago(before bed time).
I'm trying to see if I will breakout at all from this,
I'm hoping I wont because the moisture feels so good! I live in a dry climate and its been in the single digits temp wise so I want to use this stuff when I go outside because I think it makes a good protectant.
Issue is I cant find anything about how beeswax effects skin. I keep getting a 50 50 on it being really bad and really good.
On top of everything I cant find any research and I don't even know if it'll clog me up or not.
I'm asking, does anyone know anything about beeswax (+acne skin)? Or beeswax in general?
Point me in the right direction please! |

Update:
I woke up this morning and I'm even clearer than last night.
So I guess this stuff isnt so bad, although one con I have found is that It chaps my lips. I have no clue why but I looked it up and its not common but not uncommon.
I also learned of the different grades of beeswax that you can get, the lighter the color the better.
The samples I got from Medicine Mama is a light transparent light yellow color, and I'm going to say its good enough just from guesstimating.
I've also learned that it does not clog pores, but I've only been able to gather this info from the general web-which I have a hard time just trusting. But thats what it says.
I urge others to try the sample pack- its 9.99 for 6 .25oz samples but when I opened the box it had 3 extra. And not to mention it was free shipping and it literally came in a day and a half.
Which is insane! In a very good way. |

It looks like some of their products would be a good substitute for Egyptian Magic! |

While beeswax may work well in lip balms, I would never recommend it for someone who's acne prone. It acts as a sealant and its main components are palmitate and oleate esters. On most comedogencity scale, beeswax ranks as a 0-2 for comedogencity and 0-2 for irritancy. So obviously, it is YMMV but it's risky.
I wouldn't use it on my face. There are so many other ways to hydrate breakout prone skin. |

oddly enough this stuff I've been using has cleared me better and faster than anything I've used...pretty odd but for me it works haha. |

Hi heyheymonster, I happen to have been trying to know more about bees and their byproducts for the last six months as a friend as become a beekeeper and got me interested in propolis, polen, beewax, different properties of different flower honeys,... anyhow, if you're wondering about the effects of beewax as far as I read it does actually have antibacterial/antimicrobial effects. I found this article interesting.

The results about the effects of beeswax appear on page 7. Hope it helps. |

I think beeswax was an ingredient in the original Ponds cream, which has been keeping old ladies' skin fabulous for generations |

Update: (7 months later)
This stuff has actually made my acne go away completely and has repaired my barrier damage.
Every time I go to using a different product my skin goes insane...it really just stays under control with this stuff.
What I've been doing is using the body Delhi's sea cucumber gelee after I wash my face morning and night and then I'll rub the sweet bee magic on top. So it really seals in the hydrating ingredients.
This stuff is fantastic and I hope they always always make this product.
Highly recommend! |

Oh, I understood that statement so well! I tend to try questionable products with caution. I usually patch test. Areas I like to patch test:
Forehead - very clog prone. I have bangs and will (can) cover up.
Chest: This area is surprisingly sensitive and prone to redness.
I am glad your product worked for you. |
