Ladies,

I am a 35-old gal of Indian origin, brown skinned. I have oily/combination acne prone skin. I was doing ok till I had my first baby and then now after 5 years, my skin started breaking out as hell. Below is my skin care routine:

Morning:
Paula’s Choice skin balancing Resist toner
Paula’s choice 2% BHA exfoliator
Serumtologie Vit C serum
Paula’s Choice sunscreen spf 30

Night
Dr Dennis Gross daily Alpha-Beta peel
Insta Natural Retinol serum
Paula’s Choice hydrating light moisturizer

When things break-out bad, I use Dr. Dennis Gross acne clearing treatment pads and sometimes 10% Benzyl Peroxide gel. I also use weekly, Ren Radiance peel.

My issue is this -

While I am able to get rid of the acne in or 1 or 2 days, they leave brown spots. I just don’t seem to be able to get rid of these spots
My skin is dull and lacks brightness. The brightening serums I use obviously don’t seem to be working

Any helpful advice is greatly appreciated!!!

I know exactly what you are talking about, although my skin is really light, so the marks stay red for a long time. This is what I have found, if you use a strong exfoliating product, which you are, they will eventually fade.

YET, since I am trained as a both an esthetician and holistic health practitioner, I have found that if your thyroid is a little slow, which is very normal. The skin does not heal normally, hence leaving these red or brown marks, depending on your complexion. THere is a great product that anyone who has a normal thyroid function can take, its called Thyroxycut, from Life Choices (available in Canada). Its designed to increase your metabolism, yet it actually is one of the best products I have ever found to help a sluggish thyroid AND the minerals really help the skin to heal fast!

If you don't want to take that kind of product, take a super strong multi-vitamin or multi-mineral product, this will help the skin the heal faster.

You might need to also get some microdermabrasion done or something like that for a few sessions to get rid of the marks.

I am sure you have a great makeup by this point, yet there is a company called Oxygenetix, that I just started using, which oxygenates the skin, speeding up healing and covers your acne and marks.

I hope I was of some help, as I know how easy it is to just use product after product without seeing the results that you are seeking. Sometimes there are other factors to be considered!

Feliz,

Darling thanks so much! I am going to try everything you suggested Smile

On another forum, someone suggested using a thicker moisturizer as dryness could cause acne too but that severely broke my skin out.

Also, Benzyl Peroxide seems to be eliminating acne but leaving brown spots. Not sure what the alternative is? Salicylic acid?

After I posted on your link I proceeded to read all of these articles about how over exfoliation strips the skin and thins it, thus allowing dark spots on the skin. I would stay away from Benzyl peroxide and use products like Vitamin C serums or serums designed from pigmentation.

I think you are like a lot of us, who have had to deal with oily/combo/acne prone skin for most of our adult life.

What I find is that there are things that do work, yet often too aggressive of a method can have a bad effect as well. I would certainly not be using a heavy cream, skin like yours and mine, needs light products.

Hey,my sister faced the same problem, so she concerned a dermatologist and started using zeroblem serum. It not only made her face from getting rid of acne but allowed moisture to stay, giving it a clear, flawless and blemish-free skin.
