List healthy 3 or more food items that are budget friendly,
and additionally what you incorporate them into if youd like.
I like:
1)(frozen)Quinoa -> use to stuff peppers
2)Peppers
3)Kale -> make some yummy kale chips |

Lentils - my body likes legumes (as long as they're soaked overnight), just make big batches of lentil and vegetable soup with plenty of herbs. This has to be one of the cheapest meals around.
Sardines - seriously why bother with whey protein shakes when you can get a good serve of protein and calcium along with omega 3, selenium and iodine by simply eating a can of sardines? Worried about mercury? Sardines are the lowest mercury fish you can get due to their small size. They're always wild caught, not farmed which also makes them a fairly ethical choice (for carnivores anway). My favorite ways of preparing them - drain a can of sardines, mash with a bit of lemon juice or apple cider vinegar and smear on rye bread topped with cucumber slices. Either that or get sardines in tomato sauce and just eat them plain with good salad. A can of sardines will only cost around the same as a serve of whey protein powder. Much better choice!
Frozen blueberries - much cheaper than fresh, and frozen produce normally has as much, and sometimes more, nutritional value as fresh produce. Chuck them in a smoothie or just make this super simple blueberry sauce. Place frozen blueberries in a bullet blender, add hot water to barely cover and blitz until smooth. After you've blended them, add just enough honey to taste. This is fantastic on buckwheat pancakes. |

I second the sardines. I buy them at Big Lots for about $1.50 a can. I like the ones with mustard sauce. When I was a starving student traveling in Portugal, I would get a baguette, a can of sardines, a fresh tomato and sometimes cheese and make myself a big sandwich. Heaven! |

Yes more water! I use to drink diet soda on a regular basis. Now I have a diet coke once in a while if I am out as a treat.
Overall try to eliminate processed foods and cook more at home.
Substitute canned beans or fish for meat.
Produce in season will be cheaper and tastier than out of season produce. Freeze your favorite fruit (berries) when the local season peaks and the cost is lower. |

Does anyone have a recipe for making kale chips?
OR is there a brand that is tastier than others? Years ago, I was at the local farmer market and someone was selling kale chips. Very yummy and if I could find the this brand (or close) I would buy it. |

I buy everything from Aldi - you get more value for your money.
Here are my top 3:
1. sweet potatoes
2. pollock (because I don't eat tuna)
3. yogurt
We should compile this into an app. Our lists will be useful for busy moms. Any techies here? |

Yes, Britheva26:) I also include sweet potatoes on my lists of budget friendly food including lemon and sardines and so many others that I couldn't think of right now. Anyway, You are absolutely correct to compile them in one. Though, I'm not techie, I have already heard about it. Thanks that you gave me an idea. I might google the apps soon! |

well , the best health solution for me is work out and eat fruit. like Raspberry is also known as mountain berry or bramble. Among many fruits and vegetables, the best-dietary-supplements raspberry with bright color, sweet and sour taste is considered the "Golden noble fruit" |

Here are some budget friendly ideas:
1. Get some Milk Kefir Grains from Amazon or other specialized place like Kombucha Kamp site.
It will give you fresh kefir every day (dairy or not dairy). No additives or preservatives. Add some chia seeds and berries to it and you’ve got another type of wonderful and healthy dessert.
2. Get Kombucha culture. One time small investment ($25 for the first culture set plus another $25 for 2.5 gallon dispenser for growing it).
This will give you excellent healthy drink packed with full vitamin B complex, enzymes and probiotics.
3. Raw Cacao nibs. You get 2 lb for $14 from Amazon with Subscribe and Save option and it’s good for a month or more. Use it with oatmeal, yogurt, kefir, fruit salad.
One of the testiest ways to get your daily dose of Magnesium, potassium, iron and fiber.
4. Blend 150g (5oz) ginger with 3 peeled lemons (remove seeds) and 150g good honey. I also add fresh turmeric when i have it.
I put this mix on top of my banana-berries salad and sprinkle with cacao nibs - Heaven on earth! |

Lean meat (turkey/chicken/seafood)
Spaghetti Squash
Cauliflower
Veggies in general (love zucchini, mushrooms, spinach, celery, carrot)
Chia/Flax Seeds
Greek Yogurt
Lentils/Quinoa
I know more than three haha. I love cooking and making healthier versions of my favorites. My little sister is a vegetarian so I often cook new meals for her to test out. |
