I was looking at the ingredient list of Alba Botanicals Very Emollient Sunscreen and noticed it contains an emulsifier that is a castor oil derivative - polyglycerol polyricinoleate (aka polyglyceryl-3 ricinoleate).
It is supposed to be a very safe ingredient, but so is castor oil, which I found is in some of my lip balms.
I tried castor oil a while back for lash lengthening and it works amazingly well. It also works for growing scalp hair (and has the added benefit of deep conditioning).
Unfortunately, like the pharmaceutical grade lash lengtheners, castor oil works by targetting prostaglandin receptors and has the side effects of darkening skin and reducing subcutaneous fat (which is a negative for face and lips, I think).
Do you think that polyglycerol polyricinoleate containing products, if used long enough, would have the same effects as castor oil?
Does anyone have a good mineral based sunscreen recommendation that does not use any castor oil, ricinoleic acid, polyglyceryl-3 ricinoleate or polyglycerol polyricinoleate? |
