Hey everyone!
I was thinking, I use coconut oil a lot, for hair especially, but also for my face, and I got to thinking, I wonder how it would work if I took a 20 ounce jar of coconut oil, cut open four green tea bags (those standard sized ones, one bag makes one cup of tea) and just poured the contents into the jar.
Do you think this would mix together well and actually transfer the antioxidants to my skin? I also sprinkled some cilantro leaves in there. How long do you think it would last?
Thoughts?
Thanks |

I would think it would have an odd texture when apply to the skin since coconut oil absorbs and the tea leaves wouldn't...you'd have to essentially wash it off after which defeats the purpose. I would think it would last as long as the coconut oil does as long as it's done in a sanitary manner. |

You might want to consider green or white tea extract for skin care. The extract was used in the topical skin care studies. |

Hey everyone, thanks for the input.
So, the messy texture isn't a problem as I use my heaviest, messiest topicals before I shower (but you're right, it's a God-awful mess), so I can just wash it off, then I can use a normal, not-too-messy topical afterwards and just leave it on.
Also yes I'd like to use green tea extract, but for now I'll probably at least finish this jar. Life Extension sells a really good one and it seems really, really cheap, and it's available at my local Vitamin Shoppe too. |

you could put the coconut oil with the green tea in a heatproof dish over a pan of simmering water on the stove (like how you melt chocolate for baking)
gently heat it all for say 20 mins (keeping an eye on it so the water in the pan underneath dosn't run dry) and then strain the mixture...that would infuse the green tea into the coconut oil and improve the texture |

I have used powdered,Macha, green tea in several concoctions. Messy but works fine and forms a suspension in oil base formula but may require shaking. |

Matcha is the most amazing thing I have ever had. However, it's a bit expensive, so I tend to reserve it for drinking.
But I wonder, next time I steep some and strain out the used leaves, can I just dump them into my coconut oil mixture? Of course it wouldn't be as effective as it would if I hadn't steeped it first, but maybe it's something? Because the alternative is to throw the used leaves away. |
