I have thought for a while 1/4 of a teaspoon on the face and 1/4 on the neck. Which i had found from alot of posts on this site. I ended up mentioning on makeup alley something about sunscreens and someone showed me this http://escholarship.org/uc/item/3rq338fh
it's explaining how much sunscreen should be used on the whole body using the rule of nines and says that a standard crown lid from a beer bottle can be used to measure. Yesterday i used one to try this out. It said to use half a lid of sunscreen on the face and neck (so 1/4 of a lid on the face and the rest on the neck). This to me looked so much less than what i would normally put on and in fact its about half less as i tested it after and the lid holds just under 1/2 teaspoon.
So what is the right way what is your take on this? |

At my job we are out in the sun most of the time. Our health insurance company came around with a ultraviolet camera to show us our sun damage. Teach us what types of sunscreens we should be using and how much to use. They said for chemical sunscreens we should apply at least 1 gram to the face and neck, 20 minutes before outdoor activity. For physical sunsblock we should apply 1 1/2 grams to the face and neck, with no wait time. If using both they suggested waiting 15-20 minutes between applications, and to apply the chemical prior to the physical. Reapply every two hours, regardless of recommendations about water or sweat, the makers cannot guarantee 100% coverage for over 2 hours unless it is perfectly ideal conditions, you may compromise the protective barrier.

PS: Physical Sunblock contains zinc oxide and/or titanium dioxide, Chemical Sunscreen contains all others. |
