I have dry and sensitive skin and have been working on getting it to a better (less dry/less sensitive) place to add some more active ingredients to help with anti-aging and aging that already exists. I was looking at a low percentage retinol such as Avene Retrinal .05 or Skin Medica Age Defense Retinol Complex .25 or would something like Phyto-C Superheal O-Live Serum be another option?
Any thoughts on these products or others? Is there anything other than Retinol that would make much of an impact? I am thinking starting with once a week and maybe just spot treating areas before increasing the area and frequency. Nights I don't use whatever I come up with I would use another anti-oxidant or peptide type serum.
Thanks. |

You may wish to try out PSF's retinol products. I too have very sensitive skin. I tried prescription retinoids but they tore up my face! I couldn't tolerate them. The PSF is very gentle, yet I still see quite dramatic results. I am now using the 1% with no issues. You can read about them here on EDS:

The other thing I would suggest is a good Vitamin C serum. I hate to sound like I'm trolling for this line, but I also use PSF's vitamin C serum. It's super effective for me but doesn't dry out or irritate my skin. Plus, it's very stable - it stays clear to the end of the bottle for me. Also I like using products that are more natural without a ton of chemicals or parabens. That's important to me...

Good luck! |

Thank you. Is that the PSF Retinol Nite Repair?
I have tried the Cellex-C vitamin C for sensitive skin. It is very watery. Is the PSF Vit C a bit thicker? |

Yes it's the PSF Retinol nite repair. I use the 1% but they also have a 0.5%. I only used 1 bottle of the 0.5% before bumping up to the 1% and frankly I had no problems. I've never tried their professional formula Retinol but it's supposed to be encapsulated & time release. I tend to stick with a product when I see it working for me. Lol.
The PSF Vitamin C Serum is not watery, but it's not thick either. It's very similar to their hyaluronic acid serum, maybe just a bit thinner. But definitely not watery. It does, however sink in quickly & leaves no residue on my skin. Just hydrated & plumped up.
I also like that they manufacturer in small batches & vacuum seal every bottle of vitamin c to keep it from oxidizing while on the shelf. When you open the bottle for the first time you can hear the vacuum seal release & the air rush in. It's a nice touch to know that they take product freshness into account for their customers |

I really like DHC's version, retino-a essence. I feel like my pores are refined and skin becomes so smooth. Due to the harsh sun lately even in winter, I have not used retin-a but prefer DHC's mild version. |

Sadly I can't find Avene Retrinal in the UK...
I have tried various retinol serums, last one is Retinol Serum by Poppy Austin. It is quite nice, doesn't cause irritation. To tell you the truth, I didn't really notice it doing anything spectacular in 6 months (I notice HA in it). After my retin-A adventure, not flaking is good. Also, I do have adjusted expectations after checking timelines for retin-A that various youtubers posted (9 month update is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Zgrz4WBINE, there is also 3 year update). If it takes that long for perscription retin-A to do its magic, retinol is going to have longer timelines...
When I finish it, I plan to get http://theordinary.com/product/rdn-advanced-retinoid-2pct-30ml, I found a lot of positive feedback for all products from that company... |
